When to get there

You can visit Makawao year-round. Its upcountry location means that the weather is generally cooler than the coast, which makes it a good escape from hot summer temperatures. Visit on Wednesday mornings for its popular Farmers Market, and on the third Friday of the month for the Third Friday Makawao town party. The island’s biggest rodeo is held here on the Fourth of July, along with a parade through town.

The Maui Cookie Lady is known for its gigantic cookies in traditional and tropical flavors, along with other treats including caramels and local honey.
