Diego Rivera Mural Museum (Museo Mural Diego Rivera)

Mexico City, Distrito Federal, 06000

The Basics

The massive Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central is the museum’s principal work. It was originally housed in the grand ballroom of the Hotel del Prado, before damage from a major earthquake caused the fresco to be moved to its own museum. An accompanying sketch identifies the multiple historic figures represented in Rivera’s masterpiece. While it’s possible to view the mural in a matter of minutes, you should allow at least an hour to truly enjoy the rich details this great work has to offer.

Stop by the museum on your own, or join a walking tour that celebrates muralism in Mexico City.
