The gigantic Maracanã Stadium (Estádio do Maracanã) is one of the most iconic soccer temples in South America, built to open the 1950 World Cup. The site holds the record for the largest attendance at a World Cup Final thanks to the 199,854 paying spectators who crammed into the stadium in 1950, and it also hosted the FIFA World Cup Final again in 2014 and the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. Officially known as Mário Filho Stadium, but called Maracanã after the small river that runs alongside it, the arena is now a historical site dedicated to its former use as a world-class arena and event venue.

What are people saying about Maracana Stadium (Estádio do Maracanã)

Braziliant!
A full on but fab day from start to finish. Superb guide who took care of everyone, kept the group moving when it can be like herding cats and we got to see all the main sights. Great driver, clean modern vehicle and finished off with a traditional Brazilian bbq. Highly recommended and worth the investment.

Good efficient overview.
We especially enjoyed Christ the Redeemer, Mayan- style Catholic cathedral, and the Seralon Steps. The soccer stadium stop an the Samba school stops were less rewarding.

Cosy relaxed full-day trip, worth it if you just have one day for everything
It's a nice, cosy experience in a minivan, adequately air conditioned, with music at decent levels (rare these days). Makes well-timed stops across the city, you get to see the most important things in just one day. Decent brazilian BBQ lunch (although very noisy) and a tour guide that had humor and was kind though a bit stressed with losing people left and right. Would definitely recommend if you only have a few days and want to see everything in a calm, relaxed atmosphere.
