Thirassia

The Basics

Sail over from Santorini to escape the crowds on Thirassia’s quiet beaches and its rustic hilltop tavernas. Sightseeing tours to the island begin in Ammoudi, where you'll hop aboard a small boat to Korfos, the port city of Thirassia. Then set out on foot, climbing the 180 steps to the settlement of Manolas, and earning spectacular views along the way. If you wish to skip the hike, there are donkeys to make the climb.

Along the way learn about the island’s founding, history, and culture, covering local agricultural specialties, wine production, and Greek traditions. Hike through the countryside to Akrilia, a deserted village full of cave houses that was once the biggest settlement on this island, and the Virgin Mary Church to discover Greek religious traditions. Before or after dinner at one of the romantic tavernas, tack on a trip to volcanic Nea Kameni hot springs.

Great day on the water
What a great day on the open water! Our guide Gabriel was great, never rushing anyone, really friendly and shared information in English, Spanish and Italian so that everyone could learn about the region. Vassili our captain was extremely skillful with the boat and took us as close as possible to some of the volcanic formations. His knowledge about the area and the recommendations he gave us to visit were highly appreciated and turned out to be amazing!! If you don’t mind larger group tours, then you should definitely look into this one.
