Double Bay

Sydney, New South Wales, 2028

The basics

While the suburb’s many boutiques and restaurants are favored by a wealthy, older clientele, Double Bay’s trendy coffee shops and cocktail bars typically attract a young crowd. Murray Rose Pool, a large tidal enclosure by the harbor, draws sunbathers and swimmers of all stripes as does Redleaf Beach's jetty, which offers views across the water toward Darling Point and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Some city tours, including hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses, stop in Double Bay.

When to get there

Double Bay is splendid year-round; however, it’s best in the summer when you can laze on the beach and in the spring, when the jacaranda trees bloom. The bars and restaurants are busiest on weekend evenings, and on Thursdays, Double Bay hosts Sydney’s most popular organic food market in Guilfoyle Park.
