Hi, I'm Diana!

Diana Fleming has been writing for more than 10 years. She recently moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to a quiet Northern California mountain town, and as the mother of a curious toddler, she’s always looking for fun, creative ways for her family to experience the world—in places big and small.

Let’s be honest, learning can be tricky when you’re in the house most of the time. Kids are home, and with schools going virtual parents are stepping up and taking over for teachers to make sure their kids don’t fall behind. But that doesn’t mean at-home learning should be difficult. In fact, it can get exciting if you branch out and explore all of the virtual learning experiences there are to offer. Here’s our list of virtual learning resources for the whole family.

1. Make history far from boring

Interactive, virtual tours can transport you back in time. From this tour of Ancient Rome, complete with trivia quizzes and a question-and-answer session to this virtual experience that explores Ancient Athens and even a WWII tour of Berlin, there’s always a way to make history more fun at home.

2. Discover a passion for the arts

Kids may not realize it, but art offers something for everyone. Whether they’re into fashion, street art, music, or photography, look no further. They can explore Parisian fashion trends with a Paris local, or learn the basics of Spanish Guitar with a class live from Barcelona. They can even tour Brooklyn’s most popular street art or “visit” Rome’s Borghese Gallery with an art historian. A world-class art history experience right from your living room.

3. Social Studies was never this cool

Help your kids learn about different cultures from those who know them best—locals. Explore the tradition of the Day of the Dead with this tour led by a Mexico City local, learn to make authentic Italian-style meatballs with this cooking class led by a Florence local, or opt for a virtual cooking experience live from Kuala Lumpur.

4. Get experimental with science

A top kid-friendly, science guide is the Nature Conservancy's free Nature Lab, but National Geographic Kids’ site is also loaded with games, videos, fun facts, and more to keep the little ones learning while they’re burning into screen time.

5. Never too early to learn a new language

Language just might be one of the most difficult subjects for parents and children alike. These online Spanish classes and online Mandarian classes let kids practice their language skills right at home with a tutor so they don’t fall behind. If you’re looking for something to help even the littlest ones in your household, try out Little Pim.
