We ended up having a private tour. Was a fascinating tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information! The history in Birmingham was hard to hear……..
Insightful, sobering and thought provoking.

Excellent tour, very informative, Mike is a great story teller. Really helpful historical context for all of the events that happened at the locations we visited.
Interesting, moving tour around the civil rights movement in Birmingham.
Heinz_G, mars 2024
This tour is an exeptionally good opportunity to get loads of interesting information about the civil rights movement and the overwhelming hard struggle the people had to go through, unless they succeeded . It is one thing to read all this in books but it is a much better way to see all the places for yourselves. And Mike, our leader on this tour, was brillant. He inspired us with his extremely good knowledge of that time.
Highly recommend!

Clay was an absolutely amazing guide. He was knowledgeable and eloquent, and he didn’t sugarcoat any of the information. He gives a great tour for history buffs and those who’ve just begun to learn about this topic. He talks fast, so pay close attention!
Excellent experience.

Highly recommend.
Scott_S, mars 2024
This was an incredible tour. Mike did a great job of bringing it all to life. A sobering but necessary look into the dark past of the US in the 60’s. I studied most of this in school but this tour did more than years of study at connecting the dots for me.
Highly recommend

The stories and timeline of the civil rights effort were presented in an engaging memorable way. The personal stories of Rev. Shultesworth and others brought to life the era. Guide was excellent.
Turning pain into action
Gabriela_B, mars 2024
I really enjoyed Clay's tour. I'd describe Clay's tour as one that gives one an entire picture of Birmingham's Civil Rights history. Clay was able to connect different points in time and the significance of the different historical sites and downtown sites we visited (i.e. Kelly Ingram Park, the streets demarcating invisible lines of areas for whites and blacks, Historic Boutwell auditorium, Dynamite hill, and so on). I'd say if one goes on this tour they best be ready to learn, engage by asking questions even them "dumb questions," because the tour is very intentional about providing awareness about what happened in the City. One thing I appreciated most about Clay's tour is that he didn't beat around the bush about the content he was presenting. I'd do it again and recommend it to anyone who wants turn such painful events into action.

Our first time to Birmingham and Red Clay provided a great overview of the city, it’s history and current life today.
A Remarkable Tour!
Carol_g, feb. 2024
This was an amazing tour of some of the most important aspects of the civil rights movement in Birmingham. To stand and see exactly where events took place was truly remarkable. The tour guide was excellent in knowledge, presentation and how he was able to interact with the group. We feel very fortunate to have found this tour. Thank you!
Wonderful tour of the civil rights history
Alice_J, feb. 2024
The stories about Fred Shuttlesworth and his church, the history of Kelly Ingrahan Park and how city leaders treated Black residents and the history of the poll tax.
Tremendous Experience!
Mary_H, jan. 2024
Seeing where African Americans live/lived and what they endured there. Also, being informed not only of the leaders involved , but the contributions and bravery of average people involved in the struggle.
An amazing tour. I challenge anyone to learn a ton of new information.
Dina_J, jan. 2024
