Detta är en mycket bra rundtur om du vill lära dig mer om det judiska samhället i Budapest. Som titeln själv sa - dåtid och nutid och det är sant. Guiden var mycket trevlig, kommunikativ och villig att svara på alla frågor vi hade. Förutom lite grundläggande information ger den dig också information om vissa specifika platser eller små saker som kan provocera dig att planera din nästa vandring eller lära dig mer om något (till exempel att besöka synagogan, lära sig mer om snubbelstenarna eller att gå för en promenad för att hitta alla dolda ministatyer av Mihaly Kolodko etc). Så det här är verkligen en mycket trevlig daglig rundtur med lätt promenad runt judiska kvarteren. Ge det en chans om du gillar vandringsturer.

Garry the guide raced and left some of the group behind at each juncture. He kept touting for money as he said it was a free tour and selling his own products. He had no empathy or human anecdotes to bring this important tour topic to life. He just spouted facts and did not portray the story behind the history. It was just a fast walking race to get the tour done and no matter nobody could keep up walking with him. It was a waste of time and when he publicly passed a hat around for money - it summarised what his primary motive was.

The tour was engaging and Andy was a well informed guide. However, the way that the tour is advertised on Viatour implies that synegouges visits are included. I expected to be informed about two issus on the web ad:
1- On Saturdays, synagogues are closed.
2- Synagogues inside visit, irrespective of the day, is NOT included.
I think for people who have time limitation, it is important not to go twice to the same place in two different days.

I also wanted to apologize for having this misunderstanding around the visit of the synagogues! We do write it in our tour description: "Great / Central Synagogue (Nagy Zsinagoga) You will learn everything you need to know about the largest synagouge in Europe, the Neologue and Orthodox movements, the Zionism. Tour does not enter the synagouge but you will see the Memorial Courtyard and the cemetary from outside."
I'm still sorry if you had any kind of inconveniences because of this, but I am happy you enjoyed your tour with us! :)

Gary, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and went at a very comfortable pace. The synagogues were all beautiful and the history was very interesting. We learned a lot of new things about our religion and everything that went on in Budapest. I purchased the tickets at an extremely inexpensive price and thought something was not right, it was too cheap. When we met up with others, we noticed that it was a free tour. Not that I necessarily care that I paid a minimum amount, but I found it strange that it was a free, yet we paid.

Charging you with booking fee is not our choice and has nothing to do with the quality of our tours.
We are not sure that you have read carefully the booking conditions at Viator..
What you have payed was the booking fee. The tip to the guide was not included in the price.
As Gary said tipping was optional.
All free tours operate on voluntary tips basis. This means you pay what you want, IF you feel the guide deserves it.
Maybe at this point I can try raising awareness that other online travel agencies are all charging free tour companies a fee between 2-5€ per person, no matter the traveller paid any money for the tour or not.
