What To Expect

Ride an electric bike from summit to sea down the roads of Volcanoes National Park. Nearly all of the roads and trails on the tour are downhill, level, and paved, and you have a GPS audio app to narrate the area’s mythology, geology, and sights.

Pick up your bike between 10am and 12pm and receive all the necessary equipment needed for this tour. Ride past lush, tropical rain forests that house hidden, volcanic lava tubes, pass steaming vents, massive craters, and barren volcanic terrain, and, if Madame Pele (the volcano goddess) is in the right mood, there’s even the chance you could see active lava spilling into the sea. Secure parking, restrooms, a canopy-covered staging area, and live human tour support are all included to make the best of your day.

Read the Itinerary for all major points of interest on this tour. Bikes are to be returned at 4pm to the Park's Bike Trail.

Great way to see the Volcano National Park and the audio guided GPS gave great insight about the view areas. The bikes are very comfortable and are in great working order. Using the bikes eliminated the need to find parking at all of the viewing areas. Check-in was super easy, plenty of free parking, and a clean bathroom were all added bonuses. I would highly recommend using this company!

E-bike trip around Volcanoes National Park
Chris_T, Jan 2024
We enjoyed seeing the park from all different view points. We enjoyed being outside and the ease of riding the e-Bike! The company representative was very professional and spent as much as time as necessary to explain the trip, the use of the GPS app, etc.
Very Disappointed
Kimberly_P, Nov 2023
I was very disappointed with E- Bike Rental and would not recommend this to anyone. I arrived early and did have a few questions but was told that she wasn't ready to open just yet and that she had to finish setting up the bikes. I understood this and waited in my car. at about 9:45am. she called out for me to get started. She set up my bike, helmet and gave me some instructions. I let her know that I had some questions concerning the app that will be downloaded to use as a guided tour and I was concerned about the weather. She began to side step the questions, "I'll get to that" she said, than she moved to my payment. She started again "lets get your card/payment" so I did pay. Now a group of 6 came in for their bike set up. This is when she started to ignore me and moved on to help the others. I kept trying to interject, "can we finish setting me up so I can go?" She took my phone acting as if she was trying to download something as she kept talking to the group. Another group of people arrived and again I was set back farther in this mess. By now it was 11:15am. I waited for her customers to start leaving/ride theirs bikes away before I told her that I've waited long enough, I'm done, I'm out. I did not like her lack of courtesy and attitude towards me. My patience had ran out.

A fully charged functioning smartphone is a stated requirement to take this GPS tour. This customer brought a non functioning smart phone which did not have internet connection to use for her tour. She did not download the GPS app prior to arrival as instructed. In addition, she expected our staff to troubleshoot her smartphone, which is not a service that we offer. After several attempts by our staff and other customers volunteering their assistance in troubleshooting her phone issues, this customer got upset and blamed our staff for her non functioning phone. E-bikes are available for pick-up from 10AM TO 4PM. This customer arrived early and expected to be waited on immediately which interrupted our staff's pre- tour equipment safety check. Our staff did attempt to accommodate her early arrival at 9:45AM and gave her a private equipment orientation and safety lecture. The weather was sunny at the time and this customer did not express any concern to our staff concerning the weather. During the final step of the safety lecture our staff discovered that the customer did not download the GPS app and that her phone would not connect to the internet. Our staff attempted to troubleshoot her phone issues and connect her phone to the shop's WIFI while attending to our other 20 customers. Our staff did offer this customer a paper map and operator assistance. But this customer stormed off and continue to blame our staff for her non functioning smart phone. All of the other 20 customers arrived with a fully functioning smart phone and downloaded the GPS app successful. Please dress appropriately and be be prepared for wet, windy, and misty conditions. Temperatures at the Summit (4000 ft. above sea level) sometimes ranges in the low 60's to upper 70's. Mahalo, Bike Volcano

Going downhill at full speed, around the curves was awsome! Learned a lot of new information on volcanos. We really enjoyed lunch at the base.
Had a great time..
Corinne_Y, Aug 2023
We had lots of fun zooming around volcanoes. We enjoyed the audio tour but be aware it does drain your phone. The lady who helped us with bikes was VERY nice. It was an on and off rainy day and she let us borrow some left over wind breakers because the nearby store was out of ponchos. Time flew by.
Zoom around craters on a bike!
Lennart_F, Aug 2023
A great way to explore Volcano National Park! Includes some great lookouts not accessible by car, and you feel the different landscapes, vegetation and bird life much more directly than a typical park tourist. The GPS app is well done, but audio commentary at points of interest must be played separately from another link. Not the most convenient solution technically. Park Rangers are clearly not a fan of bike tours, follow the rules, they might yell at you anyway to remind you it’s not allowed to bike on the walking trails.

A great way to explore Kilauea crater
steven_d, Apr 2023
It was the perfect way to cover a significant amount of territory around the crater, and adjust the level of physical exertion. I desired with the benefit of the E bike. And, no need to jockey for parking space at the popular points of interest.
Super fun and highly recommended!
Nancy_H, Nov 2022
Incredible way to see everything at Volcano National Park. Good exercise if you want or you can use the assist as much as needed. Gives you the ability to get to places you wouldn't have time to walk to or places your car is not allowed to go. Simply amazing and we will do this again. We did the No-guide tour with GPS. Super fun and we highly recommend.
Awesome tour!
Erin_O, Oct 2022
Had a great time seeing so much of the park and the volcano by e-bike. Gwen was an excellent tour guide. Loved it!
Exceptional way to see Volcanoes up close.
Rod_H, Sep 2022
Our tour guide Gwendolyn was exceptional, giving lessons in volcanology, local culture and history. The ebikes were also a highlight, they had plenty of power for the journey, and could even go without pedaling if that's what your are looking for.

Fun Ride, Great Guide
waltsam, Aug 2019
According to our guide, Chris, we hit the only sunny/partly cloudy day within a week or so. The ride was pretty easy - couple breath-a-little-harder hills; but mostly pleasant. Good pace. We really liked Chris' explanations and stories. The variety of views made the time go quickly. Matt was very helpful with the van and trailer. We appreciated the abundance of water. Lunch was good. Overall, exactly what we'd hoped for!

The tour exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the ride and were delighted with the amount of information that we were given about the volcano and the lava flow.
Kilauea Volcano Bike Tour was very good
Nicole V, Apr 2019
The Kilauea Volcano Bike Tour was very good. I enjoyed the little hike before biking. The guide walked us through part of the park, and explained how it has changed. He also gave information on the vegetation. I enjoyed being able to bike the volcano. It was a very neat experience.

Great guide and good ride. Equipment very good. Fun day overall. Lucnh provided was good. Cost is a bit high, but everything on the Big Island is expensive and they are trying to make up for nearly a year of lost business due to last years volcanic activitiy closing the park.

We had such a wonderful time on the bike ride Pretty and Aaron were the perfect hosts. We really enjoyed riding through the lava fields. Snacks and drinks were provided all along the trip and a great lunch was also provided at a lovely stop on the ocean. We had fun, learned a lot about the history of the island and just plain enjoyed the company. Would highly recommend this and would do it again.

We had a terrific time on the Kilauea Bike Tour. The staff was very helpful when we talked on the phone after booking and then our guides, Aaron and Pretty were great. This was a great way to see the volcano and learn about the island. The bike ride was easy if you ride recreationally, but also had some great downhill areas.
