Great City Tour!

Everything! We really enjoyed the teleférico and rum tour. We enjoyed seeing all the things the city has to offer. Diana was an excellent guide!

Was a perfect way to get to visit Puerto Plata. Having a private tour allowed us to make adjustments such as the cable car wait ended up being extra long because of 5 cruise ships in port, but the cable car was important to us so we were able to work with the tour guide who was extremely flexible with us. Eddie was fantastic!! He seemed to really have a passion for the island and everything to learn about it. He considered our needs, kept us informed and worked great within the time delays and coordinating the rest of the tour. The ONLY negative was on us needing to return to port an hour earlier than plan (which was 100% on us), because he was a real pleasure to be with!! Highly recommend!

Antonio was awesome! I would recommend this private tour to anyone. He was very knowledgeable and still made it fun. We went to all the places we wanted to, but with the expertise of a local.

Our driver, Nathan, was amazing and answered all our inquisitive questions. There were things that were beyond his control such as a huge crowds at cable car so were were not able to see that. The first chocolate factory he took us too in old Town was unimpressive and no one paid us any attention. We decided to leave. Towards the end of our tour, he suggested a second chocolate factory which was a amazing! Del Oro should be a must stop. When in Old Town, he asked if we wanted to see a cigar factory. We didn't think that would interest us, but was also very cool. Not so much a factory but two workers in a little shop making them by hand. Would recommend doing this as private as you don't have to wait for a group and try and get a bus through these narrow streets. Thanks Nathan!

Awesome day in Puerto Plata

Our tour guide was great. Picked us up at our hotel in Cabarete. She was very knowledgeable. Our favorite stop was the cable car and the beautiful gardens on mount Isabel. The chocolate at Del Oro was a delicious surprise.

WE were fortunate to have Antonio as the guide with just he two of us. Weather was not best in the morning but he made sure we got the most out of it. My wife has a leg issue and is currently using a cane and he went above and beyond to accommodate. Took us everywhere we wanted to go. Only negative was rum factory which was a waste and explanations and video were not informative, you could not understand the woman at the tasting in the dark and shots reallly small. Everyhing else as great.

Absolutely incredible experience!! So worth it and so honestly genuine. We came from an all-inclusive experience, but wanted to see the rest of Puerta Plata (outside of what our hotel had to offer) and learned so much about the history, culture, and city. Antonio was our tour guide and was super knowledgeable, knew everyone around town, and so flexible throughout the day. We were given the full itinerary at the beginning of the day and had the option to do things as we pleased. I cannot recommend this adventure enough. 100% recommend anyone to explore! See the town with a local and your feel for the city is so much more enjoyable than if you had done it on your own.

Okay tour but too many shopping stops

The personal tour was nice because we didn't have to travel with "60" of our closest friends. That being said, we met our tour guide outside the gates of the Puerto Plata/Amber Cove cruise terminal. It was about a 15-minute walk, so be prepared. Our tour guide was nice and informative. He seemed to know everyone in Puerto Plata! The cable car to the top of Mount Isabel was the highlight of the day. I thought we were going there first, but our tour guide said there was a long wait (they only have two cable cars!), so we went to the rum tasting first, at 9 am, a bit early. I could have skipped the chocolate factory (think gift shop). The downtown tour was good but the gift shop that sold local stones was a waste. We never had the Dominican lunch :( because we were afraid we wouldn't get back to the ship in enough time (due to the long walk), so that was disappointing. We also didn't see the local supermarket (no great loss there). Overall, it was nice to have a private tour but the tour itself was too much "souvenir shopping" for me. Don't miss Mount Isabel though. That was pretty incredible.

This was the best excursion we had in Puerto Plata. Our guide "Andy" was amazing. Great English and knowledgeable. We had one member of our party that has difficulty walking and our tour was set around those limitations. We still saw everything there was to see without the extra walking. It was great and I highly recommend it!

Tour guide, Ola, was terrific! She was knowledgeable and personable. We had two issues during the tour which is why I gave 4 stars, not 5. There was a 2.5hr wait to ride the cable car up and who knows how long a wait to come back down, so that wouldn’t have left enough time for all of the others stops, therefore we didn’t get to go on the cable car. Disappointing! Also, our van had mechanical problems at the amber factory and we had to wait for that to be repaired before continuing. Loved the rum and chocolate tours, lunch was quick & tasty.

We had an awesome time on this excursion. Diana, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. It was a great way to see Puerto Plata and some of the highlights of the city. She provided a very detailed information surrounding the history of different stops we made throughout the day. I would highly recommend taking this excursion and if you have an opportunity to take it with Diana, you will not be disappointed!

A good way to see Puerto Plata

Overall it was pretty good. I wish we would have had more time to spend in the town of Puerto Plata, we spent more time at the cable car and Christ the redeemer than in town. Lunch was excellent and the rum tasting was fun. The grocery store visit was kind of random but I guess is good if you’re staying in a resort and need to pick up some items. The only cons for me were not enough time to explore town and the fact that it’s a very long day, nearly 8 hours including travel to and from hotels.

Disappointed in our guide

Overall we had a good experience but several things did not turn out well. Our guide was swapped out at the last minute and the young man we got as a tour guide was really just a driver, he hadn’t a clue as to what we were seeing and couldn’t answer any questions. Also, be aware, when they say to meet outside the main gate of the cruise terminal…they mean way out…along the street…almost a mile from the ship. It’s quite a hike!

I would rate the tour 5-stars, but due to their pick-up location far away from the cruise, I'm rating it 4 stars. To ride this bus, you have to walk about 20 minutes from the cruise port and come all the way out of the Amber Cove port on the main street. There are lots of tour buses available from the port, so you may want to compare those tours while booking. This tour operator, "Antonio," is very professional and caring. He ensured that everyone in the bus was safe while visiting the city. His comment was informative and humorous.We skipped the rum factory as we heard the bad odor issues from our relatives who recently visited. But the city tour, chocolate factory tour, and cable car were fabulous. Don't forget to buy some chocolates. You won't get time anywhere else. The lunch was very delicious. Overall, the tour was awesome. I wish they could arrange some pickups from the cruise taxi stand. The operator told us that the port authority doesn't let private buses come inside the port. We had some elderly people, so the 20+ minute walk in hot weather was a bit too much for them.
