What To Expect

Meet a driver at your hotel for the trip to Puerto Morelos, a laid-back town with roots as traditional fishing community (if your hotel is not in the pickup area, you can meet the driver at a central location).

Upon arrival at Puerto Morelos, go over the basics of snorkeling safety and technique, then suit up with a life jacket and snorkel gear including a brand-new tube. You’ll visit one of the best snorkeling locations on the reef with time to snorkel at each one, for a varied look at Puerto Morelos' underwater world. While the wildlife changes from day to day, it’s common to spot sea turtles, rays, and many species of fish at both of these reef sites.

Following your time in the water, shower and change for a stroll through Puerto Morelos, where you can browse small shops, or just find a spot on the beach to enjoy the Caribbean sunshine. Meet back up for lunch at a Puerto Morelos beach club, then make the return trip to your hotel in Cancun or the Riviera Maya, where this tour concludes.

We had a fantastic half day trip yesterday snorkelling and wandering around Porto Morelos! Transfers - great, we arrived early so we weren’t ‘the late couple’ and the bus was already there and waiting. The transfer took longer on the way as we had a few pick ups but the return trip took only 20 mins! Snorkelling - what a friendly bunch of guys that run this tour! Really knowledgeable and helpful especially Michael (i think that’s right) - we stayed close to him so we didnt miss anything and we saw so much great stuff! We snorkelled for around 45 minutes which was plenty although we enjoyed it so much we could have stayed in the water all day! After the snorkelling you are able to shower and change into dry clothes if you wish back at their little office! The facilities there were kept very clean and there was a cleaner after we had finished getting ready for the afternoon trip. Lunch - small but delicious and in a lovely gourmet beach house setting overlooking the sea! Free time - after the tour and lunch we had an hour to wander around the town, we ended up going back to the place we had lunch for another drink! Photos - really great photographer who captures some underwater snaps that you have the opportunity to buy after. We paid $25 for one picture! We would definitely recommend this trip, we felt it was excellent value for money and we had a great time!

Great snorkeling adventure in Puerto Morelos with Extreme Adventuring Cancun
Douglas_P, Apr 2024
A friend and I were pleasantly surprised by how much activity was bundled in the snorkeling adventure. The Mesoamerican reef is spectacular and there was plenty of different types of aquatic life to see. The guides took pictures that were available to purchase later including highlights of our tour. The included lunch was simple and enjoyable and the tequila tasting was entertaining. The pickup and drop-off at our resort was on time and comfortable. A very memorable and enjoyable day!
Very limited snorkeling
elizabeth_w, Apr 2024
A lot of waiting around doing nothing. The tour started an hour and a half late and 90 minutes of snorkeling turned into 40 minutes. The reef was very shallow which made it difficult to navigate with the current, and in poor shape. So if your main goal is to enjoy the snorkeling experience, I would not recommend this tour.
Amazing family experience
Leanne_S, Apr 2024
We enjoyed every moment of our time on this tour! It was amazing to discover such beauty on our planet with my family. I appreciated the care the tour guides gave to us as well as the reef.
Fun outing with kids.

Staff very friendly. Snorkeling experience great for kids and adults. Logistics of transportation was disorganized (give yourself extra time on return).

We had an incredible time. The guides were fun, friendly, and eco aware. My 4 teens can’t stop talking about the colours of the fish. Thank you so much!
Great time!

The staff were excellent and freindly, the boat was questionable, the snorkeling area not the most beautiful but still ok. The food and drinks after-very good! The price is reasonable - would recommend!
Current was brutal!

This may not be a fair review, as both my husband and I are seasoned scuba divers with over 70 dives a piece under our belts. We have seen some of the best coral in the world during our time, so we were saddened at the state of this reef. The guide told us beforehand that over 70% of the corals had died, so there was relatively little coral to see during the snorkeling. The fish life was surprisingly good--even saw a 4 foot nurse shark and one fish I had never seen before. There were 16 people on our boat, 8 of whom had never snorkeled before. While we were in the water, we encountered another group of snorkelers, so it got a bit crowded at time. At one point, I ended up following the other group, thinking it was mine, under one of our guides corralled me back to my group. The worst part was the current. At times, I was swimming forward using my arms and legs (fins provided) and was stilling moving sideways from the current instead of forward. You could not drift above a coral and enjoy the view--it was constant movement. The guides did a good job of keeping us moving and at least keeping us with the group. We did not stay for lunch or wandering the town afterward, as my husband was not feeling well after the dive, so we hired a taxi to take us to the resort. It is a 4 hour excursion, with only 1 hour being water related.
A nice snorkel trip
Debbie_A, Mar 2024
Saw lots of nice sea coral, and many schools of different fish. As a suggestion: predetermine the group snorkel proficiencies. Divide the group into those that are proficient and novice snorkelers so that the ones that can don’t get caught in a group that can’t. Like today. If you can’t swim, why are you snorkeling ?
Amazing staff with sustainabiilty focus
Sheila_R, Feb 2024
It was fun! Staff when out of there way to make sure we understood the importance of protecting the reef and also to ensure we had a great time. The tequila tasting was fun too. I've been on other trips where there is opportunity to snorkel, but there is no focus on the environment and not much time to really enjoy the natural habitat. If the goal is to snorkel, then I'd recommend this experience!
Awesome snorkeling
Laura_L, Feb 2024
Great reef snorkeling. Saw many different species of fish, including ray and barracuda. Dive guides were helpful when I had a problem with my mask loosing seal. Would definitely use them for future trips.
Super fun half day excursion in beautiful Puerto Morelos
Jessica_S, Jan 2024
Awesome time snorkeling and exploring the reef. Easy transport there and back, with clear communication. Our group was larger (6 adults) so we were set up with our own boat and guide! Not saying that’s a guarantee, but great hospitality from Mike and Ishmael. You spend about an hour snorkeling - we saw some cool fish and it was fun to have the experience as a group. The taco lunch was solid, and you had time to explore the shops before getting picked up, or you could just hang and have a few cervezas at the beachside restaurant! Mike, Ishmael and the whole team were awesome and made sure everyone had fun. The price was right for this adventure, which took about six hours when you include transport. Highly recommend!
Not worth it
Craig_W, Jan 2024
Nice people but disappointing experience. We went out about a 1/2 mile or so and snorkeled in about 4-6 feet of water. No wonder the reef is 80 per cent dead. I've been on much better excursions both diving and snorkeling. This was by far the most disappointing.
Very few fish seen. Could not use own cameras! This needs to be in the “details” before booking.
Sherri_B, Oct 2023
Tacos for lunch! No drink was offered or included. Our shoes were placed in a container that was dropped in the water. Husbands tennis shoes were soaked. The crew was nice and friendly. Not a bad experience, just not great.

We had a great experience, Alan and his team were great 👍 had great weather and had clear views of different fish and stingray in their natural habitat
great tour, bad transportation
James_J, Aug 2023
the tour was great and the tour l guides were amazing. the transportation was unsatisfactory. we were told to be ready for our shuttle at 0800 and not to be late. however, the shuttle was 40 minutes late, and the return shuttle was 30 minutes late. Five stars for the actual tour and 2 stars for the transportation
I do not recommend this. I see just as much in our private hotel beach.
Lisa_Y, Jul 2023
I would give it a 2. Not satisfied. Besides the unforeseen weather I believe the tour should have been cancelled due to the strong currents. Also the staff there told us we can't not take anything with us and NO backpacks 🎒 so I left all the things I needed for the boat in the locker but later I saw other people taking their bags and there was actually a small cabinet at the bottom of the benches on the boat to put bags in. They told us everything we take would get wet and discouraged us to take anything with us. Initially told us no cameras at all and then told us yes cameras in the boat but not in the ocean. Transportation was bad. On the way there the van made like 5 stops and literally all the seats were taken. No empty seats. On the way back a sick person was in our van couching and clearing his throat every few minutes with a mask hanging on his neck but did not put it on and safety for others around him was not enforced. I regret having done this excursion. Next time I would make sure to get private transportation and make sure they cancel or postpone it if the weather is not cooperative. (There were no other boats around us at the coral reef, maybe because the other companies postponed it due to weather). The corals were all grey and dead anyways so not much to see.
Decent trip to see amazing coral reef
Jon_D, Jun 2023
The snorkeling of the coral reef was amazing (tremendous guides, well instructed, etc.) but the experience took longer than 3.5 hours due to transportation pick up and our return trip left way too long after lunch and was 30 minutes after they communicated departure time. Our experience ending up being from 8:30 AM - 3 PM, prepare for similar.
Snorkeling
Alexandria_V, Jun 2023
Only reason this gets a 4 star is for the coral reefs and the ocean. The tacos at the end of the snorkeling was very good as well. The transportation was not so good. The 4 hour tour turned into 5 1/2 hour and that was waiting on our ride back . So you get about 45 minutes of snorkeling and the rest was preparation, food, and transportation. Oh you have to pay an additional $10 pp for environmental protection fee.
The water was quite...
Hao_Z, May 2023
The water was quite rough. We also have a very large group. It’s hard to find the tour guide. To summarize my day, I took a 30 minutes shuttle to the shop, wait for 30 minutes for everyone to arrive, another 30 minutes to the boat, swim in the water for 40 minutes and had tacos, waited 2.5 hours for the shuttle to send me back.
Disappointing, beware when booking
Sandra_T, Apr 2023
I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews beforehand... It is a long trip, about 7 hrs from the Akumal area, just to snorkel for 45 minutes. Only after you pay, it says you can't bring your camera in the water for 'reef protection' which is ridiculous and just a way to get more money of tourists, because they have their own guy taking pics which you can buy for a load of money.... Very disappointing! Give this information out before people book. I wouldn't have gone. The reef itself is beautiful but in my opinion Cozumel is much better. If you don't mind traveling and waiting a lot and don't want to take your camera, go for it. Otherwise, save the journey.
