What To Expect
Begin your day with a pickup at your central Cape Town hotel in an air-conditioned coach, and travel in comfort to the private and malaria-free Aquila Game Reserve in the midst of the southern Karoo semi-desert region.
Meet your guide and game ranger when you reach the reserve, and from there climb into an open-air safari vehicle to begin your game drive.
Learn about how the so-called ‘Big Five’ - African elephants, Cape buffaloes, lions, leopards and rhinos - got their nickname as you keep your eyes peeled for any sign of them as well as giraffes, hippos and other animals. The Aquila Game Reserve is particularly known for its abundant bird species, thanks in part to a large wetland area. There are over 170 species of birds that make their home in the park, including the endangered ‘Aquila’ Black Eagle from which the reserve takes its name.
At the end of your safari drive, return for lunch (included) and then meet up with your host once again for the drive back to Cape Town. Return to the city by late afternoon.

- Tour accommodates maximum 8 guests, however there will be more guests at the Reserve and on the game drive.
- Cullinan Guided Journeys strictly follow the SA Government approved TBCSA Health and Safety COVID-19 Protocols. Should guests present COVID-19 symptoms, COVID testing and quarantine will be at their own cost. We recommend that you ensure that your guests take adequate personal travel insurance cover before departure from home.
- If guests are making their own way to a listed pick-up point, they need to allow sufficient travelling time (ie... traffic delays etc...) in order to arrive at the pickup point in time for collection.
Cancellation Policy
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
- For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
- If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
- Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
- Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

A:Cruise port pickup is not available. Guests arriving by ship will need to make their way to the nearest pickup point, located at the Radisson Red Hotel Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

Super was an amazing guide. He gave us lots of information and history along the way. Nothing was too much trouble for him . He made sure we were at the front of the queue and knew where we had to meet , really looked after our group. Aquila was superb. We saw 4 of the big 5. Beautiful place , very friendly staff, the inclusive buffet lunch was very good . A really great day out - highly recommend !

Everything thing was as expected. Van was comfortable, buffet was decent and guide during the safari was very informative. Seeing the animals living in “the wild” was great! Great value for the price, it was an all day event.

Not up to my expectations. The animals are too far away and only few types of animals. But the driver is nice and friendly.

This was an excellent tour which I highly recommend.
The driver met us at a hotel on the waterfront, we drove for 3 hours to get to the reserve because of an accident on the road. The tour allows for such delays. The lunch buffet was excellent. The safari drive was almost 3 hours and we saw the " big 5".
The driver answered all questions and was extremely knowledgeable about the animals we saw.
The return trip was under 2 hours and 30 minutes. Overall excellent value for the money.

The driver pick us up on time and was very helpful, giving many explanations during the trip. When we arrived in the reserve we had a welcome drink and a buffet. The weather was beautiful and we could see many animals very closely during the safari. Definitely a memorable experience!

The trip from Cape Town to the gamer serve. the scenery is spectacular, mountains and valleys. The game reserve is lacking in animals and the ride through the reserve is less than exciting. Apart from advertising the big 5, cheetahs and leopards are missing, and the 3 lions looked like they were on drugs. Having done a safari in the Masa Mari, I was didn't expect anything better. I did enjoy the scenery however, and that made up for the paucity of wildlife.

One of the mist remarkable experience on this safari was to see Lions, Hippos. Elephants, Giraffes and much more animals in their environments. The safari was very much organised and our guide on the safari did an excellent job in explaining the habitats of the animals. I recommend this safari experience to anyone visiting Cape Town.

I was so impressed by this safari. I am lucky enough to have been on a safari previously, but Aquila Game Reserve is without a doubt the cream of the crop.
The experience is incredible! Once we arrived, we were treated with some beautiful wine and then taken inside where we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch. The selection of food was both diverse and mouthwateringly impressive.
Once lunch was over, we boarded our safari truck and entered the reserve. We got up close and personal with every kind of beautiful animal among the spectacular scenery. To be that close to these magnificent creatures is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life. If you are wanting to go on a safari tour, make sure you choose this one.

Excellent experience!
We were picked up from our hotel right on time. Chad, our driver was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We were driven to the Aquila Game Reserve. When we got there, we ate a delicious complementary lunch, then began our game drive. The drive was about 2.5 hours and we saw all of the big 5. Our driver on the game drive was also super knowledgeable and shared interesting information about the various animals. Once the game drive ended, Chad was waiting exactly where he said he would be to drive us back to Cape Town. Overall, excellent experience and would highly recommend.
