Explore the Canyon de Chelly area with a certified guide who is from the region to get an insider’s take on the history and sites. You will travel in a 4x4, and even visit your guide’s home, where the family members still live in the traditional Navajo way. Hear stories of canyon life, including weaving, ranching, and farming. This is a locally owned small business, so you will be supporting them.

Suggested items to bring -water and snacks -hat, appropriate clothing for time of year (check weather report) -sunscreen -binoculars -camera * Our vehicles are open air (if weather is bad we will bring an enclosed vehicle for more comfort) * * CANYON DE CHELLY NATIONAL MONUMENT (including the entire Navajo Nation) OBSERVES DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME. All departure for tours will be on Mountain Daylight-Savings Time, which is one hour ahead of the rest of Arizona (from March 10-November 3, 2019). *Please plan accordingly, tours may be shortened or forfeit if group/individual is not on time.

Our guide Leander was great. He had so much knowledge about the history and culture of Canyon de Chelly,
the Navajo Nation and the region. It is a family business and it was fun to see his dad also out guiding. Great local perspective. Being inside the canyon was so beautiful! One of the best travel experiences ever.

Don was knowledgeable about the history and culture. We saw lots of ruins, petroglyphs and beautiful scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the tour.

The tour was wonderful. There are several ruins. It was a cool/windy day, so the jeep had the top on. The tour guide grew up there and was very knowledgeable about the history and culture. She brought her daughter along and she sang a Navajo song for us. I can't recommend this tour enough.

We understand that your experience may have felt crowded during your visit, as Canyon De Chelly does see an increase in visitors wanting to enjoy the beautiful fall colors of the cottonwoods. We often advise booking at times when the crowds are lighter, and 1 PM is typically an ideal time to explore the canyon. Our trip into Canyon de Chelly began with meeting our Navajo guide, Ben, and the 4 of us climbing into his open roofed, high seated vehicle. To our delight, we learned that Ben was raised in the canyon which made him a very knowledgeable guide! He showed us pictagraphs, petraglyphs, and the dwellings high above the canyon floor. The sandstone walls and the gold of the Cottonwood trees added beauty to the history of Canyon de Chelly!
