This activity was straightforward. There were directions on Viator on how to get to the location. However, it seemed like I could get lost, and thus, opted to take a taxi to the location instead.
Although I can’t remember how much the fare was, I don’t believe it was too much, and to the betterment, got dropped right at the location where I needed to be.
Once there, one of the staff there briefed me on water safety, and where I could leave my belongings while out on the water. And yes, within the jet ski rental area, they have banks of lockers with locks so one can rest assured that their valuables will remain safe while away.
Once the other individuals that were scheduled for my time had arrived and were ready, we all, with the assistance of a guided driver, hopped on our jet skis donned with a life vest (which you MUST wear while out on the water as per U.A.E maritime regulations), and headed out of the marina.
Riders cannot speed when within the enclosed marina and jetty area (a.k.a no waking), but once past the jetty and out of the safety of the marina buoys, you can let that thing loose!
You can really go as fast or as slow as you want, as long as you’re staying out of the buoyed areas that are closer to shores or rocks and obviously, be aware at all times of other riders and of course, boats that may also be passing through the area.
I actually had to be switched out of my original jet ski due the fact that there was ‘check engine’ light that was illuminated as I was trying to gather speed right after leaving the marina exit.
It was no problem as the guided driver always keeps an eye on everyone to ensure there’s no problems, and the guide driver came back shortly after I think he noticed that my jet ski wasn’t driving all that fast.
He called someone back to someone at the pier, and a few minutes later, another guy came out with another jet ski, I switched out machines, and was set to ride fast.
No doubt to have for concerns or even emergencies, the guide driver has his phone with him, and a great beneficial note to that is, he will take a number of photos of you while out on the water posed on front of the Burj Al Arab, and even some short videos of you steaming past on your jet ski (although for some reason, the videos would not open on my computer). I was more than happy with the still shots that were taken of me.
Once time is up, he will beckon to everyone that we must all return to the marina, park up on the dock, and that’s the end of the tour.
All in all, it was a fun tour, and your time out on the water will be 1 hour.
After, you can change, collect your things, and be on your way.
The staff at the jet ski location was even able to tell me the bus number to get to the Mall of the Emirates, (where I not only could get some food and do a little quick shopping), but also, jump aboard the train to get back to my hotel and not have to take a taxi home.
If you want to do the same thing, just ask the staff before you leave (as you’ll have to forgive me as I forget the bus number (I think it was 152?) that will stop nearby.
I only had to walk about 6-7 minutes around the corner from the jet ski area, and there’s a bus stop right nearby. Just ask before you leave though
For anyone who likes jet skiing, or even for those have never done it before, I encourage you to join this tour group! Lots of fun, lots of water and splashing, and lots of speed!
