Truly Fantastic Tour

We really didn't know what to expect on this tour but we're pleasantly surprised because we got a true Culture Walking Tour! Johnny, our guide, was truly exceptional. He went to great lengths to explain the culture, the history, the politics and the current state of affairs. This information is definitely not what most tourist receive. We especially enjoyed him taking us to places that most tourists do not go. In fact, we didn't see another tourist for over 3 hours during one part of the tour. This is one of the best tours I've ever been on and I've traveled to over 40 countries.

We had a wonderful tour with Johnny! He really took a lot of time for us and showed us Durban like we would have never experienced on any other tour. Thank you so much! I recommended the tour to my mother in law and she did it a few days later and enjoyed it just as much. Would highly recommend the tour to South Africans and foreign tourists alike

I very much enjoyed navigating the city like a local in a way that wouldn’t have been possible without Johnny’s guidance. Hearing Johnny’s unfiltered insights and experiences was also unique. Ending with bunnychow at the beach was perfect. We enjoyed the walk along the beach’s boardwalk back to our ship.

I had an absolute blast!! From the moment I met my guide Johnny, I knew I was in for a great day! The tour was informative providing historical and current facts of Durban’s history and immersive as we traveled by foot and local mini bus (as many Durbanites do) throughout Durban. The tour is authentic, meaning that you will see the “good and not so good” vs only “the good” of other tours. I am very pleased that I chose this tour and highly recommend to anyone visiting who is looking for a meaningful and cultural experience.

Really enjoyed seeing the daily reality of life in Durban close-up. The guide, Johnny, was excellent. Travelling by minibus was very enjoyable. Lunch was very good. A first-class experience.

I went on a walking tour of Durban with Johnny and I was extremely impressed with his depth of knowledge about the history and dynamics of his city (Durban) and how original the tour was. We experienced Durban first-hand, ate street food, saw the local markets, took local transportation, and ended it with a nice traditional meal. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a balanced view of Durban.

Johnny is the best! We had such a great, interesting and educational time on this tour! We loved taking the local transport, felt super safe the whole tour and really enjoyed all the interesting things that Johnny pointed out for us that we would never have noticed otherwise! Johnny is so much fun and has so much information to share! Everyone visiting Durban should 100% take this tour! You’re missing a big part of Durban if you don’t!

He is the kind of guy who immediately makes you feel comfortable and has the whole group feeling like friends rather than strangers. He is knowledgeable, fun and has put together a great day tour of the city. Whether you are visiting Durban on a cruise ship, or if you are there traveling South Africa, I recommend booking this tour. We also absolutely loved ending the tour with a wonderful meal of Bunny Chow right at the ocean. What a wonderful treat! Anyone visiting Durban MUST do this tour! This is a real and unique insight into every day life in Durban. Johnny is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Durban. He made me feel very safe as a solo traveller and took me to markets and places which I would never have found myself. Johnny is well-known amongst the locals. You will also get to see some spectacular views of the city, the beach front and taste a very good BunnyChow. Johnny was also very help in giving general advice about the rest of my stay. Highly recommend - excellent value for money.

Johnny gives a great walking tours showing you the parts of Durban that most visitors won't visit, including a visual overview of the city from a park above the botanical garden, first hand experience of the Kombi-bus system in Durban (including a history of the taxi wars, and learning hand-signals for different routes), and seeing the various markets west of the CBD, including the Early Morning Market, the Victoria Street Market, the medicine market (including animal parts, herbs, and other native treatments), and even a trip to the Bovine Head Market to experience a freshly-boiled cow's head served with steam bread. It's a walking trip not to be missed.

Had the best day ever with Johnny in & around Durban city. After careful research of all the trips available I knew this was my only must do in the city & it didn't disappoint & in fact exceeded my expectations. Got a great overview of the city & history in addition to seeing all the different sights not to mention the delicious bunny chow at the end. Johnny is a real local & is a compassionate person with a unique insight of the city&I would be telling anyone coming to Durban that it should be a definite on their list!

I wasn't going to write this review until I got back to Canada but then I decided that too many people would miss this fantastic opportunity. Johnny is a great tour guide and YOU MUST do this tour if you want to see the real Durban. We have done many city tours and this ranks as one of our best. DO THIS TOUR, you won't be disappointed in the least! Thanks Johhny for showing us a side of Durban most tourists or even Durbanites ever see.
