    What To Expect

    Formerly a 14th-century hospital and then a fine art school, the Accademia Gallery now showcases top works of art by the likes of Botticelli, Andrea Orcagna and, most famously, Michelangelo.

    An assistant retrieves your tickets so that you can skip the long lines outside the Accademia Gallery and step straight inside. Wander the museum at your own pace, stopping to admire Michelangelo’s unfinished San Matteo sculpture, as well as his Prigioni, where four prisoners attempt to free themselves from the confines of the marble.

    Then, head over to the Gallery’s main attraction: Michelangelo’s 17-foot (5.17-meter) sculpture of David. Admire the lifelike contours of the marble figure’s muscles and veins, completed when the artist was only in his twenties.

    Afterward, check out the onsite Museum of Musical Instruments, where an impressive collection of stringed instruments are exhibited. Paintings by other Renaissance greats, such as Botticelli and Filippino Lippi, are also on display for you to peruse. Depart the Accademia whenever you wish.

    Tickets were for 9 but we didn’t get into the museum until 10. Glad we didn’t have anything planned right afterwards or we would have missed it. Museum is nice.worth seeing.

    We had a 9:45-10:00 time. We were fortunate to skip the line that was waiting to buy tickets and go right in. Worth paying a little extra!

    Of course, if you go to Florence, you must see the David. And it was worth every moment. It's a fairly small museum, and in comparison to the Uffizi, it is tiny. But it has one of the most amazing pieces of artwork. It's a lovely little museum, but if you can get there early, you will avoid some of the bigger crowds. Worth every penny!

    It was difficult to figure out where to go to get our tickets. Massive lines everywhere. Ended up asking one of the ticket people for clarity on which line we were supposed to wait. Self-tour was fine, saw The David, beautiful artwork and well documented.

    The Accademia Gallery is an absolute must see. The collection of art is worth the visit, but what really puts it over the top is Michelangelo’s David. I was completely speechless by the magnitude of the sculpture- pictures simply cannot do it justice. It’s worth the visit - you won’t be disappointed!

    We had skip the line tickets early in the morning so beat most of the crowd for a while. I appreciated the art displays and ability to read about the artist, time period and restoration. the museum itself is awesome. Unfortunately we had tickets that included an English speaking guide. We were rushed thru the entry so fast we didn't ever get a guide. I asked many workers and no one was ever able to help us once we were inside.

    The Academia Gallery in Florence is one of the top galleries in Italy. It houses the famous statue of David by Michelangelo along with other famous paintings and sculptures from renaissance artists.
