Traveler Tips

Choose one tour, collesium or vatican, you will never get both done on a one day trip to Rome, and don't buy water from the street vendors, they reuse the bottles and they are not sealed bottles, UG!!!
There is a 5-10 minute walk from the coach bus to the Hop-On-Hop Off bus stop, but the tour was very informative and stopped at / close to must see spots in Rome.

Not on time
MaryJane_P, Oct 2023
We were on a cruise, so timing was very important to us. We didn’t get to the hop on hop off bus till almost noon. We didn’t want to chance being late for the ship so we stayed on the bus and rode out the route. We had a nice lunch near the pick up point. Then the bus waited 20 minutes for people to return. It was supposed to depart for port at 3:45, it didn’t leave until 4:10. Made for a very uncomfortable ride back, worrying if we’d make it back on time.
A disappointment
Jerry_D, Oct 2023
Very much a disappointment. The bus was late leaving the port. Then to go from the Vatican to the Colosseum on the hop on hop off bus took over an hour and a half. We did not have much time to see the sights simply because it was gonna take too long to do the circuit on the hop on hop off bus. Would’ve been nice to know. It took so long to travel the loop on the bus.
Terrible not what is advertised

There was no hop on hop off It was drop off and see you later at the same place It was awful I want a representative to contact me
A total disaster, very disorganized!!
esquimer16, Sep 2022
Civitavecchia port was very disorganized, instructions where to find guide where not clear, we were ready to book another excursion when we finally found the representative, then you wait out in a field with lots of people waiting for tours, not even a waiting area. Finally we made it to Rome, instructions where to catch hop on off were not clear, had to walk a lot until finally when we asked around we were told where the buses usually stop. To pick up the return shuttle bus, could not find the stop where to pick up the return shuttle. Had to walk a lot again until we found other People from our ship that told us where it was. A total disaster!! Do not recommend this tour!
Rome in a day

Pick-up at the port was perfect. Company Rep was easy to find and return transfer to port was easy. This is the best way to see the highlights of Rome. City can be busy but the bus stops are easy to find.
Left behind
Dennis E, Oct 2019
We arrived at the meeting point at 9:20, five minutes late. There was no representative to meet us and we missed the bus to Rome which left at 9:30. When I called the company at 9:35 they claimed a representative was out there but there wasn’t. They were just covering because somebody left early and we missed our trip and had to pay €100 extra to take a taxi into Rome
Good Times in Rome

Easily transported from the port to Rome. There is a 5-10 minute walk from the coach bus to the Hop-On-Hop Off bus stop, but the tour was very informative and stopped at / close to must see spots in Rome. Keep in mind your return time to the port.
Waste of time
Getaway586660, Jul 2019
Worst tour experience ever. A lot of time was wasted because the guides were unorganized and could not arrange the group transfers from cruise terminal to shuttle buses.
Hop around Rome
carinao799, Jun 2019
The bus operator picked us up where the free port shuttle dropped us. They were very helpful and easily recognizable. The bus ride to Rome was comfortable and cool. In Rome the bus stops were frequent and accessible.
Fun

This was exactly as advertised. I would recommend this to all. Had a very good time and was able to navigate through Rome from buses easily.
Rome sightseeing
Joan_M, Oct 2018
Took a shuttle bus from ship to pickup point. Unfortunately, even though we had our confirmation papers, our names were not on the tour list and so there was some delay while the company figured out what to do. We were put on another bus which took us into Rome and we were dropped off at the Colosseum. Line up for regular tickets was less than an hour. Spent over an hour exploring - an amazing place to visit. Used the Hop-on Hop-Off to get to Trevi Fountain and then walked around area before getting bus back to Port. Way too much to see in a limited time visit. Long trip (1.5 hours) from Port to city.
Rome Hop-on-hop-off bus tour and return transfer from Civitavecchia Port
Vacation191725, Sep 2018
The return transfer from the port was on time and the guide was extremely helpful. After using hop-on-hop-off buses in other European cities, I would not recommend this one. First of all, the traffic is horrendous so the bus is slow. Also, the communication and location are not user friendly.
bus leaves to late
ANDRES_L, Sep 2018
Bus leaves at 930 and by the time you get to Rome is almost 1100its not worth it, the should leave at 730
Highly recommend!

This was a last minute choice the day before.and it was a great choice. First off if you are on a cruise ship you aren't going to see much of Rome..there is not enough time...from the port its 1 hr 30min.... each way and Rome is full of tourists!!! Taxi can cost you 300 Euros!! So you save time by getting on a van and just being dropped in Rome to catch the big Bus...forget doing the train and transfers adn walking.....you will spend the day trying to get there....Riding the bus around without getting off is about 1 hr 30 min....but we were the only people in a van coming from the port!! and it was really nice...DO give the company a number you have turned on here in Italy and will answer...we were to be a 2 with 5 more to be picked up and the other 5 did not answer their phones when they changed pickup location to right in front of the ship! as they brought a van to pick us up.......or text or email! It will take you 3 hours to see Vatican Museum so the hop on really lets you see more of Rome than you can be trying to get your self around...the traffic is horrendous and parking is non existent so just take the bus! Choose one tour...collesium or vatican....you will never get both done on a one day trip to Rome....and don't buy water from the street vendors....they reuse the bottles and they are not sealed bottles...UG!!! watched one lady bust the guy and tore off the top and throw it... carry a nice Stanley thermos w ice water!!!.....honestly saved us when Rome was 94!! and PS NO PUBLIC TOILETTS....so plan your stops with restaurants and potty stops. usually cost you a Euro or 2 if you do find one!
Rip off

It's not worth it. By the time the bus finally arrived in Rome, it was almost 11am and the bus was scheduled to leave Rome at 4pm. There was not enough time to see much of Rome. We missed our timed entry to the Colosseum because the bus left late and arrived late. When I booked my tour, the Viator representative said an 11:25am entry will be ok since that's an hour extra time of when the bus was scheduled to arrive. If you want to actually see sights in Rome, stay away from this tour.

Bus to Rome from port was easy to access and they waited for us in the morning- the hop and go we couldn't fully utilize as we left more than 30 minutes late and to get around took too long to get to the destinations we needed i.e. Colosseum

Customer service of the transfer was mehhhhhh. I know I'm about to sound real whiny, but I believe the transfer bus was advertised to have wifi but it actually didn't. Big Bus hop-on hop-off was consistent and frequent as usual.

A good way to get around Rome. Got to see all the landmarks with such short time left.

sarcaro, Oct 2017
The registration at the meeting point and the bus ride to and from went great, nice and easy. Only suggestion, would be that the host/hostess on the bus could have provided a little bit of commentary along the way for those who hadn't been there before.
