What To Expect

Meet your guide at the Medellin meeting point in the morning. From there, you’ll travel directly to Peñol Rock (La Piedra del Peñol) in the town of Guatapé—the journey lasts around 2 hours. There, you’ll have the chance to climb the 742 steps that lead to the summit of the distinctly-shaped rock and soak up panoramic views of Lake Guatapé below.

Once you’ve caught your breath at the bottom, you’ll then travel a short distance to board a boat for a ride through the Peñol Guatapé Dam, for a fresh perspective of the area from the water.

Finally, you’ll have time to explore Plazoleta de los Zocalos—a craft market and the town’s most colorful enclave, made famous by its umbrellas. Once you’ve picked up your souvenirs, you’ll then board the bus and head back to the original meeting point in Medellin.

Sandy is the best guide
Michal_S, Mar 2024
Sandy was an amazing english guide! Everything was perfect. Places are greats . Worth for visit! Michal
Well planned and orgnized trip; worth my money.
Pei_Z, Mar 2024
Trip is well planned, guide Mr. Sergio and Louis are very friendly with good English communication, of course, 100% sense of humor. If something wrong, customer service team can be reached by What's App. Only thing I do not like during this trip is when I had lunch at designated resturant, there is a local singer performance; even if the tip is optional, almost everyone tipped the singer because it is unavoidable; I feel I am kidnapped.
Go!!!

I had a wonderful time. It worth every penny. The guides did an amazing job!!! Lunch was. Plenty of places to shop!!!
Great day tour to Guatape
Ashish_D, Mar 2024
Caring and informative guides. The team of ( Yuliza and Sergi) two language guides were very cheerful.
Don’t believe the hype, there are better ways to spend a day in Colombia
Jessica_C, Mar 2024
The rock is commercialized and ugly, the boat ride is a loop through a man-made reservoir. If you want to go on this trip to enjoy nature, don’t, there is nothing very natural about this experience.
Great for the price!
Summer_W, Mar 2024
You get a lot for the price! Staff was nice and you got to go to multiple places plus a bug lunch by the water.
Great
Ivan_T, Mar 2024

Amazing Experience
keneishacreary, Mar 2024
The best tour hands down. We were running late and they waited for us which I was worried they would leave but the called and arranged with us where to meet up and park our rental. The bus was long but I enjoyed the entire day. Definitely would do it again.
Best tour
vania_a, Mar 2024
Phenomenal experience with Alejandro David & Sandy (English guide) both kept everyone engaged & made sure we were having a good time. Special thanks to Javier our driver who was amazing. Climbing la pierda, tour of Gutape, lunch, boat ride & cultural/history lessons - Great! We had a special musical surprise that went around the boat & incorporated something about each guest into the song. This tour did not include breakfast which was fine since we only wanted a something small & we just grabbed some fruit & buñuelos before getting on bus. The only thing that could have been better was an option for a smaller bandeja paisa & bigger salad.
Great experience with no hassle! Just book, go and enjoy.

This was a great experience. My friends and myself enjoyed the tour. If you are in Medellin and don't want to have to figure out how to get there and what to see then I recommend booking this tour. Bus ride was comfortable, included lunch was good (but there are other options at the restaurant in case you don't like it). We could not understand everything the guide was saying but it was overall a great experience.
The best Guatape Tour

Great day and tour guides!
David_L, Mar 2024
Filipe was an amazing English speaking tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and funny throughout the day. Great tour - would go on another with this crew again and recommend to friends.
superb
Robert_R, Mar 2024
English speaking guide Sandi and the spanish speaking guide were fantastic. The tour was exactly what we were hoping for.
Amazing Tour with Phil
Stefanie_S, Mar 2024
We had Phil as our tour guide and we absolutly loved it! The tour was perfect from beginning to end!
Skip this tour company; spent most day waiting on others
Elizabeth_A, Mar 2024
I only booked this tour after I had heard from a friend who had taken a similar tour with a different company that they had started the tour at 6:50am and returned by 5pm. Our tour did even less than my friend's itinerary (i.e. skipped breakfast and didn't do the town of Peñol) but we returned at 7:30pm (an extra 2.5 hours!!!)!! I was livid because I felt like the whole tour was waiting on folks because our guides did not emphasize punctuality with everyone, allowing everything to run much slower and later. For example, after we docked from getting off the boat, we waited an extra 10-15 minutes for people who were taking shots and drinking on the boat. It felt like the whole tour was waiting on other people and the bus driver where we waited almost 15-20 minutes for the driver to show up which I didn't understand since the guides could have easily communicated to the driver when the driver should show up to pick up. The "short" bathroom breaks ended up being 20 minutes long. I almost lost it when we took a 15-20 minute detour to drop off 3 people at a stop that went the opposite direction of where we were headed and had to completely backtrack to get back on the road on our way back from the tour, but the guide refused to let me off the bus a block earlier to get to my hotel. Overall, while I enjoyed the activities, I would skip this particular tour company because I felt like I wasted an additional 2.5-3 hours of my day just waiting for others and/or the driver. Go pay a little more for a smaller tour group because I would have skipped this tour altogether had I known how long I would be spending my day waiting for people.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Ms. Elizabeth, We are glad that you enjoyed the activities we offer on our tour. We are sorry that you encountered fellow travelers that were not considerate of time and punctuality. For the most part, after 12 years of operating tours to Guatape, we have found that almost all of our tourists are considerate and punctual and respectful of meeting times and departure times. In very few cases do travelers act irresponsibly like you reported. That is not the norm. You also suggest that we returned to Medellin 2.5 to 3 hours ¨late.¨ However, that is simply not the case. If you take a look at our itinerary, we publish that we return to Medellin between 6 and 7PM. Again, we are sorry that you encountered a few within your group that did not meet your expectations: That is not the norm.
Amazing day at a great value
Jennifer_M, Mar 2024
A full day with David (Spanish guide), Felipe (English guide) and Luis (the driver) - comfortable air-conditioned motorcoach; everything was on schedule with plenty of time at each of the stops. Great information provided about Colombia and the regions we drove through. Climbing the 740 steps of La Pietra was exhausting and the 40-minute boat ride after that climb was the perfect thing needed!
Unforgettable experience
Caroline_N, Mar 2024
I was travelling alone, and our tour guide/translator Sandy was exceptional at making the tour comfortable for everyone. He explained each experience in detail and answered all of our questions. He was very knowledgeable. The city of Guatape is a must see! The time at each location was perfect! I would recommend booking this tour!
Climbing up the rock was...
Rina_P, Mar 2024
Climbing up the rock was great! The city was also super colorful and beautiful to walk through. The tour guide was very kind.
If you have time, go there, otherwise it’s fine to skip.
Sina_B, Mar 2024
The tour took 12 hours. The boat trip could have been skipped. The group was more than 40 people. Lunch was nice. The rock is nice. Guatape is very touristic but colorful.
