What To Expect

Head to Mexico City’s most visited museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, also part of Chapultepec Park. Follow your guide on a tour of some of the most impressive pre-Columbian and Mexican artifacts, including Olmec carved heads and the Aztec Stone of the Sun.

Then, experience one of Mexico City's most visited sites—Chapultepec Castle. Climb up a hill with your guide and reach the 18th-century castle.

Chapultepec started as a retreat for Aztec rulers before it was partially torn down and rebuilt into the palace of Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg. It then turned into the residence for Mexico’s presidents before most of the castle was converted into the National History Museum.

Follow your guide along marble staircases, peer into royal apartments, and admire the state carriages of Emperor Maximilian and Benito Juárez. Pass murals of battles painted by famous artists, including José Clemente Orozco and John O'Gorman, as well as the sword wielded by independence fighter José María Morelos.

As you explore the 12 halls, learn about the country’s history, from the pre-Columbian period through Spanish colonialism, to Mexico’s revolution and its independence.

Your tour ends in the afternoon so you have the rest of your day to enjoy at your leisure.

I believe the guide...
Josh_L, Apr 2024
I believe the guide covered more information than was necessary. Also, she was a little bit difficult to understand, made worse by the fact that the listening devices did not amplify that well.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Josh, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are sorry that this tour wasn't to your liking. Our guides are really prepared, so they probably just wanted to share some of the knowledge they have to make it more interesting for you. We hope to have you at anotherone of our tours in the future. Kind regards from the team at Amigo Tours. Lorena.
amazing history
Jill_M, Apr 2024
Our guide, Geovanna, did an excellent job taking us through the museum and the palace. The tour is quite long, make sure to bring water and wear comfortable shoes. We did this tour the day after the Teotihuacan pyramid tour and felt it was a great way to see up close the artifacts and reinforce what we saw the day before. The palace was a really beautiful place with views of the city. I would recommend the tour for all ages, as long as walking a lot is not a problem
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Jill_M, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear that Geovanna provided you with an excellent tour experience at the museum and palace. We appreciate your recommendation! It means a lot to us! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea

Lili was an amazing guide, and she showed us key pieces in the museum that made for a rich experience. The walk to the castle was quite long, and we only looked at a few murals once we were inside.

Difficult
guy_v, Mar 2024
Our apologies to start - we signed up for the English spoken tour and our guide was difficult to understand - we had a young child that was unable to hear the tour guide so we ended up going at our own pace
Response from Host, Mar 2024

Subpar
Andrew_M, Mar 2024
The tour was very slow to begin. We were told to be present at 8:50am, and we were not into the museum until 9:45am. Inefficient.

A great way to understand the history of Mexico instead of passively looking at things
Pat_G, Mar 2024
The tour was very educational and gives a unique perspective on the prehistory of Mexico and then how Mexico went through colonization and then independence. Lititia was an amazing guide who was able to show us specific artifacts and how they related to the development of the cultures. The archeological museum focused on the mezoamerican cultures and evolution to Mexico where the castle or national museum focused on the colonization of Mexico and Independence. The archeological museum is chock full of information almost overload which may be too much by the time u go to the castle The most concerning part was the castle. They do not tell you in the app that it's quite a steep 300 meter walk up a very high hill. After the museum, I was so tired and sore getting to the castle that I zoned out and couldn't appreciate the tour from then. There also wasn't as much information given on the castle tour. But for what you get it's a great way to know the history of Mexico. You need to have a tour guide so you can appreciate the artifacts instead of passively looking at things. Also it the museum if there more than 14 people you get to use headphones.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Pat_G Thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad you found the tour educational and enjoyed the insights into Mexico's prehistory, colonization, and independence. We're sorry to hear about the challenges with the castle tour. We'll take your feedback about the steep walk and the lack of information into consideration for future improvements. We appreciate your comments about the value of having a tour guide for a more engaging experience. We hope to welcome you back in the future for an even better experience. Thank you for choosing our tour service! Greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea

Alberto is very well-versed in the history of the museum’s collection. We enjoyed getting the highlights of both the Anthropology Museum and the Chapultepec Castle. He did tell us we could spend extra time in either place with the ticket that was purchased. We really enjoyed this tour!

Enthusiastic and proud of his heritage, Immanuel was the perfect guide. These sites can be overwhelming so we were thankful for his honest, simple approach that helped us understand this rich history. Loved his personality.
Very educational tour!
Dan_N, Feb 2024
We were able to learn about the precolonial history of Mexico as well as the turbulent period when Maximilian temporarily ran the show, followed by Diaz. The tour leader was very informed and could answer a wide range of questions. Certainly worth doing!
