What To Expect

Begin with pickup at your Mombasa accommodations, then travel to Fort Jesus, a UNESCO-listed, 16th-century Portuguese fort. Visit a series of exhibits inside the fort, which is also Mombasa’s oldest museum, following the history of local people, the Swahili language, and the sultans.

Continue into Mombasa’s old town, where diverse historical architecture tells the story of the Africans, Arabs, Asians, Portuguese, and British who have shared the city for hundreds of years. Take in the elephant trunk monument, a poignant reminder of the now-illegal ivory trade that flourished in Mombasa. Pass the atmospheric fish market, where local fishermen display each day’s catch, and take time to sample local dishes in the market (own expense)—visiting the market with the guide is a perfect way to learn about Mombasa specialties.

Spend the afternoon in Haller Park, a wildlife sanctuary with a fish farm and reptile zoo. The park was constructed in a disused cement quarry, and has been transformed with hundreds of indigenous plants, casuarina trees, and other vegetation, which now support a thriving animal population. Try to spot some of the bushpigs, giraffes, elands, and oryx that live within the park. After visiting the park, return to your Mombasa hotel, where this private tour concludes.

Great overview to see Mombasa in a day

We had a full day with our guide Bingo. We had a great itinerary as described on Viator. There was some confusion about what we needed to pay for, but the company refunded us for the entrance fees. The only thing I probably wouldn’t recommend is Haller Park, but that is personal preference. It is a popular destination for tourists so I understand why it’s included.

Great driver

Our driver was very nice and made us feel good. Unfortunately the carkey did not work, so we lost a lot of time and did not make it to Haller Park. The driver was very very Sorry, Even though we were ok about it. He even offered to pick us up the day after, for a new tour. We had a nice time, and we ended the day happy. Should we mention something not good it would be that the office did not contact me after the tour, even though the tour did not go as planed. Furthermore they should have been more helpful, when we waiting for the car to work. Finally it would have been nice with a car with working seatbelts and airconditioning. The 3 stars has absolutely nothing to do with the driver, he was great, only because the office did not do anything

Well organised tour with great driver...

Well organised tour with great driver and guide - both spoke very good English and were interesting to talk to. We were able to customise the tour to suit what we wanted to do and spent time in local markets as we were interested in food and spices etc. Vehicle was new, comfortable and good air conditioning and a welcome relief after we had been walking we spent most of the tour walking but I'm sure you could spend less if you preferred. The inclusions in the tour were all worth visiting especially the hindu temple but the best value was in walking in the back streets / markets - having an individual guide with you really helps and he was very protective of us when required but let us bargain / buy things as well on our own.

Small group tour, drive through...

Small group tour, drive through city centre on to visit the woodcarving co-op, the carvers still using primitive tools to create some beautiful pieces - lovely bowls, animals .... went on to visit the Fort Jesus, before a walk through Old Town, quite an experience through narrow streets, past open smelly fish markets escaping for a cool drink on a terrace by the water front. Drive to Haller Nature Park - remarkable to see Giant Tortoises, Crocodiles, Giraffes close up to feed them, and of course the friendly monkeys. Ennjoyable and informative tour with our guide George

Ik heb een privé tour gehad. Chauffeur Osman en gids Alfred hebben mij in de ochtend Mombasa laten zien. Op alle manieren. Beide heren waren super vriendelijk. De tour is zeker een aanrader.
