What To Expect

Meet your driver-tour escort and small tour group at the Piazza della Repubblica in central Florence. Board a comfortable tour vehicle and depart for Cinque Terre, a collection of five postcard-perfect fishing hamlets that hug a rugged coastal stretch of the Italian Riviera.

Travel through Tuscany and into the Liguria region for your initial stop in the village of Manarola. Pause for fantastic photo ops of the coastline and the cerulean ocean beyond, then stroll through the narrow alleys and quaint squares of the town itself, one of the oldest in Cinque Terra. Sip a glass or two of the region's famous wines at a charming local wine bar (own expense).

Departing Manarola, meet your tour escort at a prearranged location to board your boat to Vernazza. During your scenic boat journey, sit back and view the coast gliding by with rolling hills as the backdrop.

Go ashore in Vernazza after cruising through the picturesque open harbor. Use your free time to walk around, visit the village's castle and church. Stop at one of the many waterfront restaurants for a traditional Italian lunch (own expense).

Following your time in Vernazza, climb into a tour vehicle for a drive through picturesque Corniglia before returning to your starting point.

Public boats operate subject to weather conditions and along the Cinque Terre until about the 3rd week of October. When boats are not operative transfer between towns will be by train or by minivan

Yarris was incredibly knowledgeable on our tour. He was also a Botany expert which was so interesting especially to my 70 year old mother. He described and pointed out every plant and tree we passed! such a fun extra! He also seamlessly guided us through the train system and made sure we understood where to meet him in each town. What a lovely experience as a day trip from Florence. James, our guide was knowledgeable and sweet. He gave us lots of background into all that we were passing as we made our way from the city to the UNESCO area of Cinque Terre. We visited 3 towns (in February). Although the boats DO NOT RUN in the winter months, we did take a Short train from one town to another in order not to have to hike back up a steep hill to get back to the van. James was very conscious of our abilities to traverse some of the terrains, and offered great solutions. He was a masterful driver in the twisty mountains, and we all felt very safe. He even offered some recommendations for our upcoming trip to Venice the next day. Lots of opportunity to meander through the towns and do some shopping and viewing of the incredible sights of the ocean and colorful buildings. He even arranged our lunch in one town for us, prior to picking us back up. This is a must do if you have the time while visiting Florence.

Out of all of the tours in Italy, I was disappointed with our tour guide. He didn’t even greet us when we first met him. It took one of the guests to introduce herself to him and ask his name. He drove very erratically during the drive to Cinque Terre. It was not his fault that there was a four hour delay because of the accident but certainly he didn’t make the situation better. I also feel like I learned nothing from this tour. Which is a big disappointment for me. It was hard to understand him. One of the other guests asked him to please drive slowly down the mountains on the return and to his credit, he did drive us home safely. Thank goodness. I felt so grateful that we arrived safely. The guide’s name is Maurizio. For someone during a tour like this, I’m not sure if he has the best personality for it but that is just my opinion. I would not recommend this tour and again feel disappointed as I had really been looking forward to this day trip.

Cinque Terra was beautiful and well worth the trip. Our driver however was a nightmare. He shared very little information about the area, gave confusing information on when and where to meet him while there, didn’t respond to WhatsApp messages and was a terrible driver. He drove way too fast (145+ mph) and in the last 20 minutes almost ran over two pedestrians and then proceeded to stop the vehicle both times to get out and exchange words with the pedestrians. Not to mention the multiple occasions where he almost ran into or side swiped cars. It’s a lot of money for basically transportation and u safe transportation at that.

Highly recommend! Wish we could have stayed longer for sure. Visited 3 of the 5 towns. Optional free time was spent eating lunch with an incredible view of the ocean above one of the villages. Plenty of shops, if you make the time instead of dining. Swimming is an option too!

Worth the Trip!

We met our driver in the square and we took off for our day adventure. The drive was not so long and it gave us a different perspective of the countryside than we would have gotten on the train. Our driver was very knowledgable and was happy to talk about all of the different cities we were passing through to Cinque Terre. Once we got there, it was magnificent! We got there early, before the massive crowds (October 1) and walked around, he booked the boat tour and got us a lunch reservation at Belforte Vernazza - highest restaurant overlooking the beautiful blue sea. The other towns were quaint, I wish we had more time. Worth it!

Our driver Cosomo was excellent navigating the roads on a rainy day. Along the way, he pointed out the marble hill side, and factory. It was pouring rain, but we kept going to find semi-sun in Cinque Terra. He told us the history of the three villages we were able to visit. And even suggested a wonderful trattoria for dinner in Fierenze.

If you are looking for a very quick overview of CT, this is for you. Our driver brought us to 3 villages and we spend about 90minutes at each stop.
