What To Expect

Start your visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum with a self-guided tour of the exhibitions and multimedia displays. The museum itself is located below the 9/11 Memorial, the reflecting pools that are the footprints of the Twin Towers that fell due to the devastating terrorist attack in 2001.

With your timed admission, you have guaranteed entry to stay for as long as you want. It is suggested that you take at least two hours to wander the museum. This admission saves you time by giving you direct entry into the center with your mobile device.

The museum also includes a pair of main exhibits: a memorial exhibition called In Memoriam, in honor of the people who lost their lives that day in 2001 as well as the people who were killed during the World Trade Center 1993 bombing. The second exhibition is September 11, 2001, a three-part exhibition that tells the tale of the day and analyzes motives for the attacks. It also shows the aftereffects of the attack and how the event changed the world, both locally and globally.

This museum experience brings out the emotions in the guests who visit. Get ready to hear the stories of loss and sadness, of compassion and recovery, as you explore the space.

Excellent

Excellent presentation of events. Very emotional and the air was filled with sorrow. Learning about the events that happened on the day was interesting and upsetting

Humbling but fitting memorial.

Very fitting memorial to the fallen hero’s and Victims of the attack. Difficult to take in. Be prepared for the gut punch of horrendous memories of the day and all that followed.
Take Your Time Solo Tour
Emily_R, Apr 2024
The museum is gorgeous and does an amazing job of memorializing victims and praising those who risked their lives. Each exhibition is meticulously planned and the displays are very carefully placed throughout the museum. Just entering the museum doors shows you just how different the world is after this day with its security system similar to that of the airport. The $10 listening tour was worth every penny, especially as a self lead solo guide, and eloquently crafted. I leave 4 stars because, quite frankly, you need a lot of time to experience this museum entirely. Including the deep dive exhibition portion of the museum, I spent well over 3 hours listening, learning, and processing in the museum that could have been longer as there were certain pieces and videos that I chose not to interact with. While my time there was quite moving, I wish I would have had more knowledge of the length of time it would take to complete. The museum is beautifully designed and encompasses the tragedy and togetherness the nation experienced in the wake of this disaster.
Wow. Just wow.

Amazing and somber experience. It does a great job of taking you back to that day. I love how they show the stories of many of those affected
Humbling day
Elizabeth_S, Apr 2024
It was very humbling, sad. All the faces of those that died. We have friend families that were killed in the pentagon too.
Interesting and brought me back to 2001

There is a lot to see, so take as much time as needed. We did not do the audio - we just walked through it on our own. Would highly recommend for anyone coming to try and go early as it does get busy later.
Powerful

Artifacts from the site History of the hijackers and terrorism threats Sharing this experience with my 27 year old son who was 5 years old at the time. He spent over 4 hours in the museum.
A must visit

We will never forget.

It was an absolute honor to walk these grounds and pay respect to the lives lost and forever impacted on 9/11/01. It’s all very well done, very moving, a tangible experience of the horror, grief, and triumph inherent in this important piece of our nation’s history. Thank you, NYC.
Very intense but amazing experience

Amazing intense experience. I would never have thought that such a classy, in depth experience could be born from such an awful disaster. Up there with my highlights of trip to New York
Emotional.
Danielle_P, Apr 2024
Having watched this on the news at the time, it's was so emotional to see all the details, messages and memories from this day. Me and my daughter (11) took the option of the audio tour and I found myself crying at times. My heart goes to the family's affected on this day.
Highly recommend a visit.
Jacqui_L, Apr 2024
Very moving and respectfully organised. The service workers were well informed and helpful. You need to put aside time to take in the whole experience.

A very moving memorial. A must for everyone. You will need a minimum of 2-3 hours. I've rushed through both times.
Boat evacuation film and stairs exhibit, flyers to only name a few.
Ellen_S, Apr 2024
So moving so much to read and see. An experience all should visit and honor those who lost their lives.

The 9/11 museum was fantastic. It was an emotional exhibition to visit, but there was so much information to absorb, so well thought out and just so informative. I think it’s quite over whelming for children seeing the footage and would therefore exercise caution in taking under 13s in to this.
A must see museum!
Jan_D, Apr 2024
I really liked the 11 minute film evacuating Manhattan after the twin towers were hit. So many volunteers on their private boats!
