What To Expect

Make your own way to the Empire State Library in central NYC every day of the year.

On arrival, head inside via the Observatory Entrance at 20 West 34th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues. Pause here to take in the stunning Lobby, which boasts restored art deco ceiling murals and one of the most famous images of the building above the front desk. Free high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the building to add to your experience.

At the entrance to the 2nd floor, pass through a security checkpoint, and explore the interactive exhibits that tell the story of the landmark's construction to its place in today's pop culture. Then, head to the surround-sound theater to see film and TV clips that feature this iconic tower.

Next, ride the elevator to the redesigned 80th floor, where you'll find exhibitions on the building's lights and light shows; together with stunning augmented reality experiences delivered by classic binocular viewfinders.

The final elevator ride whisks you up to the 86th-floor Main Deck: home to the highest open-air observatory in New York, and located right in the heart of Manhattan. The immersion experiences were so fun! The history was fascinating. Just a fantastic landmark! Unfortunately we booked a time with no visibility. It would have been nice to been offered another chance to get to only redo the 102nd floor again when there was visibility.

Amazing views at sunset

We paid extra for a fast track pass (6.45 on a Sunday evening, 1hr before sunset) and there was no need as there were no queues. The 2nd floor explanation of how the Empire State was built, and various film appearances is very good but Fast Pass customers bypass it on the way up to the 80th floor. We had to ask to see the display on our way back down and were directed to see it in reverse order. The views are amazing, especially at sunset though it would be useful to have a display showing which buildings and landmarks are visible from each window.

Good experience, tarnished by rude staff

Great experience, fantastic blend of a mini museum and incredible views. Some of the female staff are incredibly rude though, to the point where it’s quite insulting and took the shine off the experience, eye rolls, tutting, borderline shouting at you. It felt like you were going through customs when with respect they were chaperoning people in and out of elevators

Never recommending this to anyone. I had originally selected 12:45pm tickets for the empire state building but when I got the tickets in my email it was for 11:15. I tried to reach customer service. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL! I had to give my tickets away for free to a friend cos I couldn’t make it at the time and I wasn’t being helped to change the time.

Not Very Empire.

The eclipse. I booked the visit to the 86th floor, but, because the eclipse was happening that day, we were directed to the 80th floor instead. In order to go to the 86th floor we would need to pay an additional $40 per person or wait til after 4 pm to go up. My reservations were for 1:45 pm. Very Unacceptable. Other than that we had a good time.

Tickets didn’t work

Tickets didn’t work subsequently had to queue for ages . Same the day before in 9/11 museum . QR code just wouldn’t scan . Very frustrating , others in the same position. You buy ahead to save time and end up queuing anyway.

A big disappointment

I got tickets to enter the Empire State Building starting at 9:15 AM. Got up early and walked to the entrance at about 8:55. There we were told the building didn’t open until 10:00. When I asked why Viator sold tickets that were not for a correct time, I was told it was because they were from a 3rd party operator. So we stood for an hour on the sidewalk. I have trusted Viator in the past but now will be more careful that I get what I expected.
