What To Expect

Meet the tour guide and group in SoHo to begin this walking tour of three of New York City’s most interesting neighborhoods—SoHo, Little Italy, and Chinatown.

Walking toward Greene Street, see the site of the Manhattan Well Murder, the first recorded homicide case in New York City and the first murder trial in American history to be fully documented by a court stenographer. This well is currently in the basement of the Manhattan Bistro restaurant. Needless to say, there are a lot of requests to see the basement here.

Much of SoHo includes the Cast Iron Historic District, which consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings, many incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. Look out for celebrities in this area as SoHo is a favorite spot for movie stars and models.

In Little Italy, listen to stories about mobsters like John Gotti, plus the troubles Italian immigrants faced when they first arrived here. The name Little Italy doesn’t really apply today. It was once known for its large population of Italians, but the neighborhood only has a few Italian stores and restaurants remaining now.

Just a few blocks away is Chinatown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Manhattan and home to one of the largest concentrations of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere. Chinatown provides a fascinating cultural experience.

Finally, visit the site of Five Points, a spot that gained international notoriety as a disease-ridden, crime-infested slum in the 1800s, before you end the tour in Columbus Park.

Get a chance to sample some of the local foods in these historic neighborhoods.

Great tour

Jake was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He did a great job for bringing the stories to life and giving enough time to explore at each stop.
Great experience!

Steve was a wonderful tour guide! We really enjoyed all three places but especially China Town - it was a great experience that we would not have gotten if we’d tried to walk around on our own. Steve had some great insight to the history in each area and he was very pleasant to walk with.
Entertaining tour

Jonathan was utterly funny and entertaining, but the trip is also informative. There is a break to try some food, too. Could be more of Chinatown
Highly recommend Angela

Tammy_W, May 2023
Guide was well acquainted with the history of the areas toured and did a great job sharing with the group
Good tour, but a lot of listening to the guide
Nabil_S, May 2023
nice walking tour although the guide shares a lot of historical information that may not be of interest to everyone. The tour ends up being a lot of listening to the guide while you could really just take a stroll around those neighborhoods independently and soak in the energy and vibe of the places.
Would not recommend

Tour guide was not good at all. She fumbled all over the place, dropped her binder and paper twice, made inappropriate comments/jokes.

Steven did a great job on the tour. He is a lifelong New Yorker, so he was able to share his personal experience with all the changes that have occurred within these 3 areas of NY from a personal point of view. Made the tour even better.

Shona_A, Apr 2023
Our guide Jonathan was excellent. He spoke 4-5 languages and remembered everyone’s name. He spoke loudly enough and was gregarious and interesting.
Very entertaining and educational.
