Overview

Hawaii is one of the world's best spots to surf. Learn the exciting water sport during your vacation during this group lesson right on Waikiki Beach. Learn about the basics of surfing and certain techniques on the sand and then, take to the water to try and catch your first wave. We offer courtesy pickup from Waikiki from our four standard pickup locations 10-45 minutes prior to your lesson time: (1) Ilikai Hotel (2) Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador Hotel (3) Don Ho Lane Van Depot (4) Hyatt Regency For customers staying at the Ala Moana Hotel, Hale Koa Hotel, Kahala Hotel and Resort, The Ritz Carlton or The Ka La'i Waikiki Beach, we may be able to arrange a special pickup closer to the hotel with a notification call or email at least 24 hours in advance. If either the customer or accompanying guest has a handicap or injury and needs to arrange a special pickup, please call or email us with 24 hours notice and we are more than happy to come directly to your hotel.

3 person minimum to book. All students must be 13 or older and able to swim.
If any participants have any medical conditions or injuries that we should be aware of please advise the staff ahead of time.
If any participants cannot swim please advise the staff ahead of time as a private lesson may be recommended.
Please come prepared for the lesson by wearing your bathing suit, bringing a towel and making sure to apply sunscreen ahead of time.
If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to take a remedy you are accustomed to using about an hour before the lesson (talk to your doctor for recommendations).
All of our written materials are also available in Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. We will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee, Japanese, Korean, Spanish or Chinese speaking-instructors without enough advance notice.
Complimentary transportation is available from select locations in Waikiki. Exact pick-up location and time will be emailed to you by the supplier. If you do not receive these details 24 hours prior to your lesson, please contact Ohana Surf Project.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Great teachers for kids and adults. Very supportive. There is nothing exclusive or private, however, about the lesson. It was a group of about 20-30 people. We got in no more than 7-8 runs in. Just a lot of folks, though you have your own instructor, which is helpful. But, it is a large group in the ocean with you. Also, it can be difficult finding a good wave to ride, so you may spend a long time waiting for one. A mentionable highlight was riding in the “surf school bus”. So cute and fun! Both of my daughters got cool T-shirts from me the gift shop, as well. Overall, it was great. My kids definitely want to do it again & it was an all around enjoyable experience.

A memorable experience with my kids! My teenage boys picked it up quickly, catching many waves. As a beginner, I was nervous. But my instructor, Kevin, positioned me perfectly and before long, even I was standing up, riding waves. The entire staff was friendly. A well run operation. They took pictures and video so we can share our experience with family and friends. A vacation highlight for sure!

Instructors were amazing! I’m 46, and I took kids 14, 15 & 16 years old, we all were able to get up. Other kids were there that were 5 & 6 and were able to learn with instructors on the board with them. I’m ready to catch some bigger waves now!
