What To Expect

One of the most recognizable structures on the planet, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is an iconic wonder that everyone should experience. And there's no better way to do that than to walk up the stairs and get an amazing view from the top of the tilting tower. The Renaissance-era bell tower, which took 200 years to construct and is 183 feet (56 meters) high, began leaning during construction. Nobody knows for sure why this is! Some say it was the result of an architectural miscalculation, whereas others believe the soft clay ground was the cause. It was only in the late 20th century and early 21st century that the tilt was fully stabilized.

After giving your voucher to the ticket-taker, skip the long lines with your priority ticket and make your way up the 294 stairs to the top. You'll have 30 minutes to enjoy the view from the top, as you take in the grassy Piazza del Duomo. Then carefully go back down the stairs and you're sure to have a great tale to tell the friends and family back home.

Very well organised. Our slot was at 4.45, we dropped our bags off in a secure locker on site as stated on theticket and walked over to the tower. Small queue to gain entry.

Finding that we booked for three adults and you changed that to a booking for two adults. Finding out that because of the time of the ticket, it was not possible to see the cathedral as there was a function in there and it was closed to the general public at that time. We were forced to purchase new tickets!!! Also discovering that we were part of a group when we did not book as a group, only as a family. Viator need to check their facts before taking money from people.

Booked tour for Cathedral and Pisa tower. However only received ticket for Pisa tower as the Cathedral was closed. No refund offered or received. Best to purchase tickets when you are there from the information centre. Enjoyed Pisa tower and the 251 steps to the top.

Sad we could not take part on the tour

Our flights were cancelled due to air traffic control problems. We asked for the tour to rescheduled the day we could next get a flight into Pisa as it was out of our control. The operator would not do this and said we would need to pay in full for another tour when we arrive.

Operator met us as indicated and gave us our ticket. It was a timed ticket and we were 10minutes easily, so joined the regular line. At our designated home we entered the leaning tower, great experience. However, wren we came out we couldn’t enter the Cathedral - despite it being part of our tickets. Instead we were directed to the other end, and had to wait 30 minutes.

Very bad service!

Bought ticket but had to redeem the tickets first. Info point couldn’t help us and advised that there is someone in front of the tower with a flag. We walked around for about 20 min but saw no-one with a flag or anyone who could help us redeem the tickets. We ended up spending time chasing our tickets instead of climbing the tower and enjoy our time. I would highly recommend to buy your tickets elsewhere.

The Tower is great to see and fairly easy to climb. This ticket while advertised as skip the line, it is not. Also the time was supposed to be 16:30 but it was actually 16:45. Though not a big deal, if you are on a tight schedule it can be. Trying to find the "yellow sign" was impossible and had to call to ask where they were to which they responded "Oh, I'll call the girl".

It was a little tricky to find the meeting point on our own (Google maps doesnt understand cnr of) but the information counter mid way down the left hand side of the square (when facing the tower) were very helpful. The operator arrived on rime and delivered our tickets. While the cost of the ticket was slightly more the benefit of getting our ticket without queuing and getting the timeslot that worked for us was worth it. This is not a guided tour it is about somone else buying your ticket on your behalf in advance. That worked perfectly for us. The Leaning Tower organises have it down to a fine art. You ownly queue when it is 5-10 mins before your timeslot. Make sure you have no bagg with you because you can't take it with you. There are lockers available where the ticket counter is. All in all a great experience.

This was a great way to get to climb the tower. It was easy to meet up with the tour guide at the corner of the cathedral Square to exchange our voucher for the ticket which had been booked the day before. I didn't realise that entrance to the cathedral was included so had already visited the cathedral as part of another tour ticket.

Overcharged for our tickets by viator

The visit to the leaning tower of Pisa on 10 July, was wonderful. However, Viator over charged us for our tickets. I booked 4 tickets online through the viator website and was charged €128\-. We waited for the agent at the designated spot from 2.30pm. Our tickets were for the 4.30pm entrance. When the CAF agent finally showed up at 4.30 pm with our tickets for the 5.00 pm entrance; after 2 phone calls, we discovered that the tickets she gave us stated that the cost for four tickets was €72/- and not €128/-. There was a difference of €56/- euros. I called up the number on my mobile voucher for the third time, but did not receive a clear explanation for the extra charge. There were tickets available at the leaning tower of Pisa official counter for €72/- for four people. We could have booked directly at the counter and entered for the earlier time slot. When I booked on the Viator website it seemed to imply that tickets weren’t easily available. We were disappointed and felt cheated of €56/- Euros. When questioned, the CAF agent’s response as to why we were overcharged, was “viator is expensive, they always overcharge” and she dismissed us. I would definitely not book any more tickets through viator. It was such a bad experience!
