What To Expect

Start your small-group tour of Coba and Tulum with pickup from your Playa del Carmen or Riviera Maya hotel. Get comfortable in your air-conditioned minivan for the drive to each archaeological site. A buffet lunch and beverages are provided during the day.

Coba is your first stop, with a tour of the preserved and rebuilt ruins. At its peak, Coba had a population of about 50,000 inhabitants and an area of 80 square miles (129 sq km). Walk past two ball courts and see the sacbé, or white roads, that once linked Maya cities.

Then head down to Cho Ha Cenote for a spectacular swim in the emerald waters of this sinkhole. Highlights include limestone stalactites formed over centuries.

From there, drive to Tulum, the only archaeological site built on the Caribbean coast. Once a thriving seaport, it housed Maya nobility and merchants within its walls. Meander the groomed paths with your guide who points out noteworthy structures such as a restored temple whose murals reveal ancient red pigments. Learn about the Spanish conquest of the city during your walk around.

The final stop on your full-day tour is Playa Paraiso (Paradise Beach), one of the most visited beaches of the Riviera Maya. Relax under a palm tree and soak up the last hours of sun or swim in the turquoise sea, with a prime view of the ruins above.

Your tour concludes with transport back to your hotel in Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya.

Gabriel was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He was very professional and maintained a safe environment. The buffet lunch was delicious, with freshly prepared food for all diets and mindful of those with allergies. Lupita, our driver kept all belongings safe in the van and maintained safety on the road. Additional fees to expect included the $10 per person to go into Tulum Ruins, drinks at the buffet, and bicycle rentals at Coba (65 pesos per person). Small bottles of water were provided throughout the day at no cost. We highly recommend this excursion! Be ready for a day of activity and exercise, followed by a relaxing experience in the clear waters of the Cenote. Unfortunately we were unable to load our pictures due to connection issues, but don't forget to bring your camera! Your tour guide will also take pictures of you and your loved ones at each location.

Almost spoilt by tour operator's error.
ian_c, Mar 2024
I have marked the trip down as the operator messed up and tried to collect us from the wrong hotel, with a very similar name but about 45 minutes bus journey away! Whilst they were able to put us on the trip on the following day, it was pure good fortune that they had capacity and we were not otherwise engaged and we suffered considerable distress, especially when we thought the error might have ours not their's and that we might miss the trip completely and lose our money. Otherwise, the trip was amazing.

Alec_N, Feb 2024
Due to a no show of the guide the replacement did his very best. The driver was on the phone a lot probably trying find out what was going on, regarding the guide. It was a very long day a lots of walking.

Hello, thank you very much for your comment, unfortunately the guide assigned to your tour was sick that day and we had to send another guide who also has a certification and extensive experience, we hope you had a wonderful experience with us.
A brilliant experience

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Antonio was a great guide very knowledgeable but also very fun! Great mix of history and swimming in incredible locations. The lunch provided was also amazing. Thank you!
Great experience
Irina_K, Jan 2024
Our guide Antonio was great and humorous, he provided a lot of information about Tulum and Coba. We had great Mexican lunch (buffet style) and got some nice souvenirs (with nice prices) from the store next door to the restaurant. The last stop was a Cenote swimming in underground natural pool with fresh water: it was very nice to get refreshed after spending the time under the sun.
Lack of customer service
TIMOTHY_W, Dec 2023
We were picked up on time in a van with filthy windows. The driver was stingy with the AC. He made sure there was AC for him and his co-worker / girlfriend in front, but didn't ask the passengers about their comfort. In fact, the driver said very little to the passengers. The lunch buffet was average. Eder was the tour guide and did a good job. Bottle water was provided, but not offered by Eder very often. About 10 minutes after we departed from Coba, the driver pulled over for snacks and drinks for him and his gal pal. Eder didn't ask us customers if we would like to get out and purchase drinks or snacks for the 2 hour drive back to the resort. This really ticked me off. I found the customer service lacking and the driver's snack stop to be irritating. I was not impressed.

Tulum and Coba are 2 very different archeological sites, with their unique vibe (coast or tropical forest). The tour ended with a cenote that looked more like a cave, with perfect clear water.
Just what I wanted at a great price
Terry_P, Dec 2023
I had originally booked to go on a Thursday, but it was cancelled due to weather. Luckily, I was able to rebook for the next day (Friday). There were five of us including me, plus the driver Jose and Antonio our guide. We arrived early at Tulum and avoided lines and large groups of people. Paradise Beach was a wash because we got caught in a downpour. Next was lunch then a visit to Coba where, again, we did not experience lines or large groups. The day ended with a swim in a cenote. At that time, there was only one other couple, so it felt as if we had the place to ourselves! Antonio was very knowledgable and friendly, and Jose handled the road like a pro. Some suggestions: bring pesos. At Paradise Beach, you will need to buy a beverage; at the restaurant, you will need to leave a tip; at Coba, you will need to rent a bicycle. Also, at the cenote, no towels are provided, so make sure you bring your own. Lastly, be aware of the weather. You may need to use an umbrella and/or rain poncho depending on the time of year.
Great experience

Very small group which made it more personal and enjoyable. The guides were very communicative regarding what we were doing and where we were going next. Pickup and drop off at the hotel were very smooth.
Amazing excursion to see Tulum and Coba!
Maria_V, Nov 2023
The whole trip was enjoyable! The pace was great, we had enough time at each location. Juan and Mimi are the best. They took great care of our team. Tulum and Coba are a must. The bike ride in Coba made it easier to sightsee the entire place. The beach was nice and clean and the cenote is beautiful. We highly recommend this tour!
Fun

Our tour guide Tunancy was very knowledgeable & fun. She made our tour easy besides booking for a small grp( only 12 people). Most of our time were spent doing fun things instead of waiting/picking up guests. Would book with this company again next time we visit.
Tulum experience

Our tour guide made it a fun experience but a bit confusion on the pick up place. It should be El Dorado Royal main lobby meeting.
Best Excursion Ever!! Every Site was Amazing and the Tour Guides were Awesome
Malia_S, Sep 2023
This is the best excursion trip I have ever been on! I am very lucky to have gone on a day where the weather was beautiful. Our tour guide was named Gabriel and he was very nice and super knowledgeable. He knew a lot of information about the history and culture of each historical site. He offered to take plenty of pictures of us and had some cute ideas for photos and where the best areas are to take them. There was only 3 people in the group including myself and my boyfriend which made the trip a lot more personable. We first went to Tulum and then paradise beach which was right next to the ruins. You could see the ruins towering the cliff next to the beach. We got to relax in the water and on some day beds for an hour until it was time to go to the buffet. The buffet was very small and offered tacos and a few side dishes. Drinks were not included, so we did have to pay for them. There was a souvenir shop that had really cool items and where we grabbed ours. FYI they will negotiate. Next up was Coba which had some amazing ruins and hieroglyphics which Gabriel was very knowledgeable about. To get to each site in Coba, there is a long pathway covered in foliage and trees (thankfully covering the pathway with shade as it was HOT) and you have the option to rent a bike or have someone drive you on a bike carriage. We chose the bikes and it was very fun to be able to bike through the jungle. Lastly we went to the cenote and were luckily able to enjoy it with just our tour group. It was just us 3 to enjoy the entire cenote by ourselves! It is unreal to see in person and the water is nice and cool especially after a long day in the heat. There were catfish and even some fruit bats in the cavern. I recommend bringing some type of underwater camera to be able to get pictures of how beautiful it is underwater. Overall this was my favorite excursion during my entire trip. We were staying in Cancun, so we had to pay a fee to be picked up since we were far from the sites, but I'm thankful they were willing to even drive that far to pick us up. Our driver was named Juilan or Juilam (I’m not sure how to spell it) and he picked us up at 6 am, drove us and the rest of the group to each event and then drove us all the way back to our resort. Unfortunately there was traffic on the way back in which we were stuck in for hours. We didn't get back until about 7pm. This man drove over 13 hours and was so nice and positive the whole trip. I hope everyone gets a great tour guide and driver like Gabriel and Julian. Thank you guys for such a fun experience <3
Amazing Experience

Great day out.
lucyculverhouse, Jul 2023
A great day out. Our guide was knowledgeable. Just the right amount of time in all places. Worth mentioning to make sure you bring extra money as it's a 4km walk at coba or there are bikes/bike rickshaws.
Go for it
Michelle_Z, Jul 2023
Gabriel was a wonderful guide. The sites were spectacular and the information he gave was helpful to understand the magnificent culture and history. The food was delicious and authentic to the area. I would recommend bug spray as the mosquitoes were aggressive.
Amazing experience

Tulum & coba small group
andrew_t, May 2023
Very prompt pickup from our bahia principe grand tulum hotel lobby at 7.40am , the group was a total of 8 people perfect size. Took us straight to tulum ruins which was absolutely great & informative then onto paradise beach for an hour of free time. Resteraunt near coba was nice buffet lunch. Coba we opted to do the bicycle ride around the site with our guide, you can walk if you wish to. The cenote was very nice. Our guide offered to take family photos which thought was so nice of him. No hard sell of any items at all from this tour, I would recommend this small group tour.
Really great tour, really great tour guide!
Pegah_C, May 2023
What a fantastic excursion to Tulum, Coba, Paradise Beach and an underground cenote within an amazing cave! It was nice and small, only 8 of us. Francisco was a great tour guide— he was very informative, you could tell he had done a lot of research on Mayan culture. He was also very funny, he offered to take a lot of pictures of everyone, and he made sure we had cold water whenever we needed it, as well as trips to the bathroom, stops for snacks, etc. I have been on a lot of excursions, and Francisco was the best tour guide I have ever had, by far. Another nice thing about this tour was there wasn’t a lot of pushiness to buy things. For lunch you stop at a nice Mayan restaurant, and there is a gift shop downstairs. He just let us know it was run by Mayan people and we could buy things there to support them— and that was it. It was a change from what I have experienced on other tours. All the stops were great, both ruins were very worth the trip alone. In Coba you have the opportunity to walk, rent bikes or have someone drive you in a trike. Paradise Beach was pretty and the underground cenote was in an amazing cave that would be worth seeing in and if itself. All together the trip took about 11 hours. It’s a long day but you do so much. Definitely recommend this tour!
Picture perfect day that was great beginning to end.
Nicholas_T, May 2023
Francisco our guide and Jorge our driver were amazing. Everything went as smooth as possible. Francisco was very knowledgeable about every site we went to. We had a small group of 5 which was nice. We all got to know each other and had a wonderful day. Highly recommend!
