What To Expect

Your half-day adventure begins with a morning, noon, or afternoon pickup from your Punta Cana hotel, when you’ll board a vehicle destined for the nearby Rancho Quad Bike. On arrival, you’ll receive a safety briefing and learn the controls of an ATV.

Once you feel confident, you’ll embark on an off-road journey through lush tropical forests and plantations. Stop to sample Dominican chocolate, coffee, and rum at a local farm before continuing to Taino Ecological Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to dip into freshwater springs.

Your tour culminates with a stop at Macao Beach, a sandy stretch surrounded by limestone cliffs, where you’ll have time to relax and shop for souvenirs.

Hotel drop-off occurs after the adventure arrives back at the quad bike office.

There is no real chocolate or coffee experience…. You enter in a shop and you taste 3 drinks (coffee, chocolate…). They encourage you to buy. ATV experience was ok.

The tour was over an hour late to start due to the fact that they have very limited ATV’s and many broke down while we were on the tour. At least four of our group had to be doubled up with others on single ATV’s. (Unsafe) My husband’s ATV broke down two minutes out of the activity center. Another delay… The safety standards are well below par. No one in my party of (4) had a helmet, and we had a young boy in our group. The ad states that helmets are included, but they do not have enough for the multitude of tourists they sign up. You should know this before you arrive, especially if you have children. The stop at the plantation & the stop at the beach were only 20 minutes long. Again, these activities were cut short because of the delay in getting the tour started due to the lack of “operable” equipment. The local vendors at the stops are unbearable. Many were trying to grab us and crowding around us as soon as we tried to buy water or sodas. The prices are WAY TOO HIGH. They will try to sell you a bottle of Mamajuana for $125 that you will find it at the airport, gift boxed for $35. The handicrafts are all the same. In fact, you will find all of the products they offer at the airport, duty free, wrapped and legally compliant. The cenote was just ok. You do have to know to swim, it’s 25’ deep and dark. You will swing from a platform into a cave with stalagmites hanging from the top and many larger rock formations jutting out from the waters underneath you. If you’re not careful, you can get hurt. Watch your children. The pictures are overpriced ($75) but negotiable. Make sure to acquire them immediately though, because they set a 24hr expiration on the download. They don’t tell you that when you buy them. The staff were the only highlight of the tour. Luis, Derry, Dirty and the team were very friendly, helpful and attentive. They also did the best they could with the poor equipment that they had to work with.

I was extremely excited to do this excursion, we were picked up a little late, then made 2 stops on the way to the adventure, one to fill the bus with gas and 2 for someone to stop at the bank. My thoughts on this were that it was very unprofessional, not to mention, we weren't really greeted openly when we got on the bus. Once we finally arrived it was a kluster of unorganized chaos. Once we finally got going, the group was too large and the 3 stops on the excursion are so much into sales vs education of coffee, tea and chocolate I felt very pressed to purchase. Macao beach was the same way pressure pressure pressure the last stop was the natural cenote. So many groups at one time we couldn't even get to the water. Over all I just wanted to get on the bus and get back to my resort. Highly disappointed ruined my day! I planned this excursion for our 15 year anniversary my husband unfortunately felt the same as I.

Rushed & Overpriced (didn’t meet the expectations)

It was just okay. If you’ve never rode quad bike before than most likely you will enjoy it. However, that’s all you really getting for the price you’re paying. The rest of the experience just felt like a huge tourist trap because everyone is trying to sell you something that isn’t even good. The cave was a less than 15 minutes stop with too many people and very little space. Pretty but nothing spectacular. The “coffee tasting” experience was just a brief presentation of tools they use to make it and very tiny samples of it but mainly with the focus on the speech about how effective the products are in healing illnesses (they were creating the urgency to purchase their goods). Overall, the experience felt like we paid $60+ USD per person to ride a quid bike so we can go through multiple stores and listen to sales pitches.

Overall, it was a very fun experience. The cave is awesome, Macao Beach is beautiful, and ripping around on those ATVs is a blast! However, our experience was hindered by a slow group who caused issues. Our tour guide, John, was great, but was forced to deal with them several times. We were even left alone on the side of the road once while he tended to a problem with our group. These issues were no fault of John’s but could have been handled differently. Despite the issues, the tour company was very good and professional throughout the whole process. They also take really cool pictures and they can airdrop them to your phone if you choose to buy them. From our experience, the photos were significantly cheaper than any other excursions and you get a ton of them!

The baggy driving was very bumpy! If you only pay for 1 person to drive, you will get a vehicle that looks like a wide motorbike and the passenger sits straddled on the back. You will not get a vehicle looking like the 4 seater in the picture. That costs extra. The tour overall felt extremely rushed. We spent what felt like 20 minutes at each of the 3 stops. Our tour started late which is likely the reason. Our tour guide Kiton, was good. He provided clear instructions and warnings about vendors. He constantly ensured we were safe while driving, always looking back and mitigating risk with oncoming traffic. Steven from the coffee and rum tasting destination was wonderful and funny. We did not appreciate the other staff laughing and talking while he was presenting. It was unprofessional and rude. The prices at the shop are inflated for tourists. Shop around if you can. We bought bandanas that cover your face and head for $10 US. We didn't need it. What would have been helpful is protective eye wear for the dirt that flies in your face from the rocky roads. We gave 3 stars because although the experience was new and fun for us, it was underwhelming due to the fact that we didn't not get to thoroughly enjoy our destination spots due to the fast paced rigid schedule.
