What To Expect

Your guide and driver will meet you at your Punta Cana hotel and transport you in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle to Santo Domingo.

En route, you'll stop at Three Eyes National Park, where you'll have the chance to explore underground caves and lagoons that were used by the Taino Indians. Your guide will share insight and information about the nation's first inhabitants before you journey to the Columbus Lighthouse for a quick photo op.

From there, follow your guide through the Santo Domingo highlights, like the oldest street in the Western Hemisphere, the iconic Colonial Zone and more. You'll stop at the Columbus Palace, which was built in 1514 and once served as home to Christopher Columbus's son. You'll wander through the Plaza de Espana and visit the first paved street, known as Calle Las Damas, before checking out the first church in the New World.

This tour includes lunch at a local restaurant, where you'll savor regional cuisine and watch a traditional dance performance, as well as a stop at a large gift shop and round-trip hotel transportation.

Most of the destinations included in the tour were enjoyable, but the tour itself offered nothing other than transportation. The tour guide Gregorio was kind but uninformative. The little information he offered was frequently provided in Spanish alone. While most people in our group were Spanish-speakers, there were a few English-speakers including us and he did not seem overly keen on accommodating us. The destinations were enjoyable e.g. Tres Ojos, Columbus Palace, First Cathedral, Government House, but we frequently were not given enough time to enjoy them before being shuffled along to the next one. Additionally, several of the destinations listed in the tour description were not included e.g. university, hospital, stone home, and we visited way too many souvenir shops for my taste. The restaurant where we ate lunch was enjoyable, but, again, the dance performance touted in the tour description was not included. If you are looking for a tour of Santo Domingo, I would highly recommend trying your luck with a different one.

This day trip was very enjoyable, the staff were very kind. The tour guide was very knowledge, respectful and patient. A lot of walking is done which is fine when you are site seeing in a city you've never been in before. The restaurant we ate at was awesome, the food was great. It was authentic Dominican food. Reason I gave this 4 stars was because of the pickup situation. We were picked up to then get dropped off to the actual bus that was leaving to Santo Domingo, but our drop off location wasn't clear and we had to drive around a bit before we got dropped off to the departing bus. Other than that everything was beautiful.

It was a nice tour the driver was excellent in taking us to the sights and the tour guide was very helpful on showing us the main things and letting us see and hear the history of this area. I found that to be very interesting and exiting also. Some of the stops though got to be a bit especially at the cave where these local venders are all over you to purchased there souvenirs and products and some not take no very easy and that got to be a damper on the day for sure, But other than that it was a fun day.
