What To Expect

Your ancient Rome tour starts at Largo Gaetana Agnesi just off the blue metro line. Then walk down to the arena with your guide, and skip the main entrance line with your fast-track ticket. Inside, explore the Colosseum’s first and second tiers while listening to stories from your guide about the brutal events that were once held here, like executions and gory gladiator battles. As you stroll around the perimeter of the amphitheater, try to imagine the ancient crowd of up to 50,000 spectators who cheered as gladiators’ fates were decided by power-hungry emperors.

Next, exit the Colosseum and walk over to the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the city. Get an up-close view of ancient remains like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar, and then walk up Palatine Hill for another perspective of the ruins, including Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

This upgrade offers an exploration of the Arena Floor, which was the site of gladiatorial games, staged hunts featuring exotic animals, dramatic executions, and even simulated sea battles. You'll be amazed by the breathtaking view and get a glimpse of the location where the Emperor's box once stood. You’ll see more than most visitors do. Your tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum, as described in the standard tour.

      We really enjoyed this tour with Valerio. He was clearly very passionate about the history of the area and was very eager to answer all of our questions. This is an expensive tour, which is surprising given the base price of $24.00 per arena tour if you buy directly with the Colosseum. However, it was very informative and we felt it was well worth the price. Lots of opportunities for pictures and ample rest when needed too for members of our group. We also appreciated that the group was small, so we could really tailor the tour to what our group was most interested in. Would do again!

Obviously, all of the places we visited were awe inspiring due to the sophistication in their construction and longevity but the tour made it more real with additional information about the history.       This tour was great! I thought we were going into the floor. Just be careful about the title of each tour as you are looking because I had that in the cart and when I had to start again I clicked on something different. However, tour was great. Carlos was very knowledgable and we learned a lot. My teen son enjoyed it and said…”Note: if you bring a lunch, you’ll have more time to enjoy the Forum. It was amazing!”

      Our guide Georgio was excellent, very knowledgeable and a lovely person. Our tour went for 3 hours and we visited each of the locations and spent plenty of time at each. We were able to take photos and ask questions to which Georgio knew all of the answers. A great tour and would highly recommend. The security to get in and out of the locations was quite congested but the lines moved quickly enough.

      The guide was very bland and quiet, didnt make the experience enjoyable and engaging. She was very nice but unfortunately i wouldnt recommend this tour. I think she could have lots to share but she should speak up and be more engaging with the attendants.
