What To Expect

You're transferred from your accommodation in Rotorua after a personalized meet-and-greet and photo op with a Maori maiden dressed in traditional attire. Then learn some basic guidelines for entering the Mitai Maori Village, considered a sacred cultural and spiritual space to the Maori people.

In this bush setting of New Zealand's North Island, discover the history of the area once thriving with indigenous villages. You'll observe Maori warriors paddling a waka, or canoe, down the Wai-o-whiro stream, and visit the Fairy Spring for a look at freshwater eels, trout, and glowworms.

The evening's cultural entertainment includes a performance of games, songs, and dances including the haka, or war dance. Learn about Maori customs, including the art of ta moko (tattoo), woodcarving, and medicinal uses of native plants.

Savor a selection of succulent dishes during a traditional hangi feast, with foods cooked underground in an earthen oven. Your dinner includes New Zealand meats and poultry along with vegetables and fresh salads. Top off your meal with buffet-style desserts. Drinks are available for purchase from the full bar.

Afterward, you're dropped off at your hotel.

Wonderful Experience at the Mitai Maori Village
Lily_M, Jun 2023
My partner and I had a fantastic time at the Mitai Maori Village and recomend it to anyone who is visiting NZ and interesting in learning more about Maori culture and traditions. The performances were fantastic and the Hangi meal was delicious! We also found it to be very educational and were thrilled to see the glow worms at night. I have done this experience multiple times and look forward to doing it again next time I visit!

The performances were amazing and the voices were phenomenal! The food was mouth watering. Pudding and custard was my favorite dish! Wasn't very family friendly as there were no baby changing tables anywhere in all the bathrooms. I felt sorry for my toddler as we walked everywhere on site to seek somewhere to change her. We had no choice but to use the bathrooms. There was also a private alcohol event going on the same time as there were tourists. Felt a bit uncomfortable walking around with my kids and drunk guests and using the bathrooms at the place not a very good mix. Other than that we still had a great time. Just need toddler changing tables please!

Good family type experience

The walk in the forest. The food was good. Explanations were good as well. People with screaming babies should leave the room out of courtesy so others can hear what’s going on.
Wonderful time

The evening at the Mitai Māori Village will be always a memorable experience. The music, the stories, the war cry and the demonstrations of social norms, arsenals for war from the past were so beautifully structured for the evening. The food coma, better not talk about it.
Fantastic cultural experience

We had a fantastic time at the Mitai Māori Village for the evening. Everything is very well organized and runs smoothly - despite being quite a lot of visitors all in one place! All the villagers were welcoming & friendly, and our guide Jason was great. We enjoyed learning some more about Māori history & culture and LOVED the show - comprising songs, poems, dances & demonstrations. Plenty of delicious hangi food for everyone! Thoroughly recommended.
Loved this tour, great for travellers and groups of all types and sizes!

Incredible tour, wonderful way to learn about indigenous Maori culture and history. Food also great, and a nice variety. We loved it as a couple. Will return to do this with children in the future. Whether solo, couple, family group or group of friends, this is an excellent experience. Highly recommend to everyone who has the chance to do this experience!

Well worth look
Logan_H, Apr 2023
The night started with a pickup from our hotel with the driver arriving on time. After a short drive we were introduced to our hosts and the night began. It was a great little insight into Māori culture and was extremely informative. To top it off, the food was amazing. The reproduction village and natural forest surround are amazing at night and are something that may be lacking in some of the other cultural experiences available. Value for money is on point, the food alone is worth the price and to add it to a cultural experience makes it well worth it.
Amazing
