Wonderful to learn about the daily life of a community living in a harsh but beautiful environment. Michael, our guide, explained the way the geothermal energy was used to cook all their food and heat water for bathing. From a viewing platform, you can watch geysers erupting. This is an experience not to be missed.

Guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Tasting the corn that was cooked in the hot spring water was a great touch. The Maori dance show was good but some seats were hard to see past the people in front of you, especially if you're shorter than those around you. Best to sit on the ends, front or very back. The village was interesting as well as their customs.

The thermal pools were very cool. Our guide Wei was fabulous and it was great to learn about and see first hand the Maori culture. I highly recommend this tour. Definitely take your time to walk through the thermal trail after the tour.
