      Our trip to Alcatraz was very interesting & informative. We especially liked the fact that we could stop our “tour guide” when he was getting ahead of us when we were not able to move on due to congestion in the area. Once we could approach the area under discussion, by simply pushing “start” on our radio, we could continue our tour.

      Alcatraz and the boat tour were both great. What wasn’t great was with Alcatraz you can use a QR code from your phone. With the boat tour you have to print out a form from an email then take it to a booth to redeem. I didn’t realize they were really two separate tours. It was inconvenient so just beware.

      We told you they were two different boats in your email with your ticket. Here is what we sent : The Alcatraz portion of this event takes place on a boat from Pier 33 at your designated departure time listed above.** The boat that takes you to Alcatraz does not take you to the Golden Gate Bridge.

      The trip to Alcatraz island was the highlight of our stay in San Francisco. It's a short ferry ride from Pier 33, and as it's a designated national park, we were met by Ranger Nick who took us on an entertaining and informative tour to the cell house at the top. The going is steep, but for those who need it, there is a shuttle. At the cell house there is an audio tour which gives an immersive insight into the history and life on the island. On the way down there is an exhibition about the Native American occupation of the island in the early 70's, which is as fascinating as the island's earlier history. In all, we spent about 2 1/2 hours on the island, including the wait for the half-hourly ferry back to Pier 33. The Golden Gate Bridge Bay cruise leaves from Pier 39, a 10 minute walk from Pier 33. It lasted about an hour and took us under the Golden Gate bridge and gave us a close-up view of the other side of Alcatraz island along with other spectacular views of the bay. It's important to note that the time slot and ticket for Alcatraz is not issued until 2-3 days beforehand, and you are issued with a voucher only for the Golden Gate Cruise. This is because you need to book a time slot in person for the Golden Gate Cruise that does not clash with the Alcatraz portion, and exchange the printed voucher for a ticket. Our hotel was happy to print the Alcatraz ticket and Golden Gate voucher for us. Our Alcatraz timeslot was 10.10am, so we booked our Golden Gate cruise for 4.30pm, which allowed us plenty of time to have a leisurely lunch, explore Pier 39 and see the famous sea lions before getting on board the second boat. This is an excellent combination of tours which contributed to a memorable stay in San Francisco.

      The instructions were all conflicting. And my QR code was not sent to me until I was already on the tour. Ridiculous. I will not use Viator again. I used Viator in Thailand and everything was smooth!! Yesterday’s experience was ridiculous!

      The truth here is we sent you tour tickets to your email FIVE DAYS PRIOR! We even texted you to say "We just sent tickets so be sure to look for them and not on day of! Make sure you have them" Guess who didn't check?' YOU! You can't complain that we didn't help you when you did not give us the chance to even help you well in advance. The instructions are the same instructions we gave to the 10,000 people before you and they read them without issue. We resent everything to you when you called us. We arent here to sugar coat this. Next time look for your tickets and if you dont have them call us the day before and tell us that. Have a safe flight home! Be sure to contact your airline well in advance if you do not know your flight time home! That would make complete sense!

      Beware of Loose Manhole Covers at Alcatraz

      Within minutes of beginning our tour of Alcatraz my husband stepped on the edge of a manhole while looking at vegetation on the side of a rock face and the manhole cover tipped in and my husband fell in to the top of his leg. There was no indication that this Manhole was loose or unstable. My husband was send to St Francis Memorial Hospital by the EMS worker for follow up. We spent the next few hours at St Francis and we were never able to complete either tour. My husband is cut and badly bruised and moving quite cautiously and slowly today (the day after) but thankfully the injuries sustained are not as bad as originally feared.

      Not clear that no tour guide was going instruct us. The communication of where to meet and what time was not clear, directions to the boat tour around bay wasn't clear, Overall it up to aviator standards

      The directions were as clear as we could make it. You spent most of your day texting and calling us and we did everything we could to make this easier for you. The best part of this reply is when you called us to tell us this was a scam and that the bay cruise was a boarded up ticket office. When we asked you to send a picture of where you were it was clear you were still blocks away from where we told you to be. When you finally listened to us you found the very ticket booth you would have found had you read the clear instructions we sent to begin with.

      Exceeded my expectations. Tour at your leisure nobody there to rush you .Boats coming & going every 30 minutes so you can catch a ride back when you're ready. Love the history of the rock. Not just the talked about things everyone already heard of but things I never knew. Loved the audio guided tour of the cells & everyday living for the inmates. Just being there was a rush. If I have a suggestion is to bring a bottle of water & good walking shoes. You're going to do alot of walking. One last thing . Very friendly folks to welcome you. Thank you 👌 😊

      Great tour! Went to the wrong Pier but made it to the right one in time. Spent 90 minutes on the Rock and had no trouble getting a boat back. Great trip!

      We spend more than 3 hours with our son who is 21 years old. Maybe not for elementary students. Just because a lot of panels need to read. However, for big kids, a very interesting history lesson. Good for middle school students and up.

      This booking made for a day of fun and ease! I started with the Alcatraz tour, took all the time I wanted, then casually made my way down the piers to the bay cruise. They were near by and it was easily walkable. I would do this again when I bring my husband to San Fran!

      Alcatraz definitely worth visiting. They say you must go at booked time. Perhaps it was just a quiet day but I was booked at 11 and got on half 10 boat. You can stay on the island as long as you want. Just make sure you check the return boat times.

      FYI Purchasing this “package” was not a time or money saver. We had to reserve our own trip via a voucher. In addition it you must PRINT (yes, on paper) the Bridge voucher because they don’t accept digital.

      The bay cruise requires a printer as that is your payment. We gave you a list of 15 ways to print this if you do not have a printer. We told you to ask your front desk, ask the concierge, or walk into any hotel in San Francisco and use their printer in their business center. Beware! You need to do what we recommend if you want to be happy.
