This wine tasting was one of the best parts of our trip! The location was beautiful. the views overlooking the vineyards and San Gimignano were gorgeous and the shaded table was perfect! We tasted multiple wines, olive oils, and balsamic vinegars and learned a lot. The food was also amazing, we had a full 3 course meal! Highly recommend this experience!

Just enough positive's to offset the shortcomings
Rudi_F, Apr 2024
First the good: The surroundings are lovely with a very nice view of San Gimignano. The lunch was sufficiently filling to qualify as a lunch and reasonably tasty. The availability of 5 different Olive Oils and 3 Balsamic Reductions made for lots of different combinations with the bread provided. Finally, the white wines were surprisingly good. After the lunch/tasting we took time to walk around San Gimignano which was an enjoyable experience. I'm not sure we would have gotten there if we hadn't bought this Viator activity. The not so good: The experience felt a little "salesy" to me, and the prices seemed a little out of line. We were not enamored with the red wines selected for our tasting. The winery seemed a little understaffed with the "Wine Educator" having to serve several groups. What we came to understand during our week in Umbria/Tuscany was that most of the folks who go to tastings are not from Italy. They are mostly tourists like us from the USA. On that basis, it might benefit wineries like Podere La Maronaia to better understand the customer's preferences.
Slightly disappointed
alanbewsher, Apr 2024
Having read the reviews, we were expecting more. The food was quite disappointing , nothing special and certainly no choice. The wine was actually exceptional and what we were expecting from a small organic vineyard. Even though the experience was private and in nice surroundings, I felt it was all geared around making sales to American tourists and the staff were more bothered about the sale than the experience itself. One thing to be aware of is that you can’t actually buy the wines to take away that day, only to ship by courier. We had an OK time so it wasn’t a bad experience , I just felt their hearts weren’t really in it and they could have offered more value and put a bit of energy into it !

If I could give this place six stars I would! The staff, food, and views could not have been better. Due to travel issues on the way there we alerted the winery we would be late, and they were more than understanding. They were so knowledgeable about the particular pairings we tried and answered any questions we had. The food is all homemade and SO GOOD! The views are even better. They were kind enough to help our struggling group figure out travel back to the train station post tasting, and we are forever in their debt. If you are looking for a tuscan wine experience, look no further than here!
Fun Day
Chris_B, Nov 2023
Our family of five had a wonderful time at the tasting tour. Gorgeous sunny day, the views are extraordinary. Our host Sara shared her strong knowledge of wine, oil and balsamic. The appetizer boards of cheeses, meats, breads, oils and balsamic were so tasty but the lunch option was a bit disappointing- gnocchi pesto and lentil dishes. We look forward to receiving our ordered items! We enjoyed meeting annd visiting with others at nearby tables. The meal shouldn’t deter you, the overall experience was still fabulous!
Beautiful property

The food and wine were plentiful and very good. Sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. Expected a group tasting, but was private.
An amazing Tuscan experience!
Daiana_C, Oct 2023
We had such a wonderful time at il Marronaia. We booked the Wine and Oil Tasting with Lunch and there were four wine tastings with our meal, two white and two red, and they were all wonderful. The meal consisted of a delicious antipasto, homemade lasagna with panzanella as a side and tiramisu' truffles for dessert. Along with our meal, we were given six different olive oils and three different balsamic vinegars to add to any part of our meal as we wished. Our guide gave us interesting information with each tasting and we were given the opportunity to purchase any of the wines, oils, vinegars, etc. if we so desired. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Perfection!

Good value for money spent-4 generous pourings of wine accompany 4 course lunch-server very knowledgeable & pleasant, very good atmosphere-very Italian!
Great oils, vinegars, wines, and views!

What a great experience! My husband and I went to Tuscany for our honeymoon and decided to do a wine tasting here. The reason we chose this place over the thousands of other options was the fact that you also get an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting as well. It was really nice to learn about the oils, vinegars, and wines of the area; our host was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions (forgot his name, too much wine HA). Our tasting was private, so we got our own table with a beautiful view of San Gimignano. They served ice with the water which I appreciated immensely. Also, the dog Rio stole my heart. I definitely recommend!
First, it may totally be...
Charlotte_P, Jun 2023
First, it may totally be our fault that the experience was not what we hoped for since we were quite late due to train and bus issues. They kindly accommodated us, but it felt rushed and lacked the attention we expected based upon several other wine tastings we’ve done elsewhere. The “tour” consisted of a spiel that I doubt lasted five minutes in front of the vineyard. Was that due to us being late or it being an organic brand? Something else? Who knows. Either way, it was disappointing even though the people were very nice and the food/wine was tasty.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Dear Charlotte, we are anyway very surprised to read your words. Due to your very late arrival, we should not have accepted your booking and considered it as a "no show with" no refund option for you. We always try to do our best to accommodate guests and that is what we did with you. A sincere "thank you" for having offered a service anyway (even if we were not obliged anymore) and not having made you waste money, would have been more correct.

Quintessential Tuscany vibes
Laavanya_G, Apr 2023
Quintessential Tuscany vibes. So cool to see second generation family vineyard. They are carrying on traditional methods with a dedication to quality. Views are excellent, food and wine were very good as well. San G town is definitely worth a day to explore.

The wine and oil tasting, along with the lunch were great! However, the tour of the vineyard could have been more informative.

Breathtaking views, lovely grounds, mediocre food, passable wine, horrible wine tour
Zaida_L, Aug 2022
Nothing good to say except the beautiful views and grounds. The staff has not (and I suspect cares not for) guest service training.

Absolutely wonderful tasting with an exceptional view! Family owned farm with great wines and food. We shipped some goodies back to the states and the costs were super reasonable! Definitely check this out if you're in San Gimignano.
