This small-group tour takes you to the tropical rainforest of El Yunque where you learn all about its remarkable biological diversity while following natural trails, wading through rivers, and swim in natural pools and waterfalls.     GUESTS MUST HAVE A RENTAL CAR. Meet at "Frutera Flores" fruit stand in Luquillo. You cannot taxi or Uber to the departure location. Please allow sufficient time driving from San Juan (approx. 1 hr and 15 mins). Parking and rainforest entrance fees are included in the rate.

What To Expect

Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of El Yunque National Park with this premium half-day tour for visitors with their own rental cars. Relax knowing that you will be led by a professional guide with lifeguard, CPR, and first-aid certification.

Drive yourself to the meeting spot in Luquillo in the morning and continue on to El Yunque, where your entrance and parking fees are already taken care of. Follow your guide along scenic nature paths through the rainforest, while learning about the area’s biodiversity, to a hidden natural playground.

Soak up the scenery, swim, slide down natural water slides, rope swing, and cliff jump. Fresh fruit, snacks, and refreshments will be available. Your guide will also be on hand to provide any necessary instruction and equipment, and to take photos.

Your tour ends back at Luquillo, with the rest of the day free to explore how you want.

  • Transportation Not Available: Guests must have a Rental Car – No Taxi or Ubers
  • While the excursion explores the El Yunque region, it does not include a visit to the El Yunque National Forest, managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
  • Not recommended for travelers with neck, back, arm or leg problems or casts
  • Not recommended for travelers with recent surgeries
  • Not recommended for travelers who have epilepsy, heart conditions, dizziness or vertigo
  • The difficulty level of this excursion is considered to be moderate to strenuous depending on your physical fitness level. It is very important that you are in good physical condition in order to participate and enjoy yourself. The terrain in the rainforest can be muddy, slippery, uneven and include river-wading, climbing large rocks and steep inclines. This excursion is recommended for guests with an active lifestyle
  • Minimum age is 8 years old
  • Maximum weight limit is 250 lbs
  • Maximum age is 70 years old
  • NOTE: Saturday's tour is longer (approximately 1 hour) and more strenuous than Sunday - Friday. It's very important that you are able to comply with all of the tour restrictions, have a strong physical fitness level and are able to bring your knees up to your chest.
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 30 travelers

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

It was a great experience. The tour guides were really friendly and knowledgeable. The waterfall and natural spring were amazing. The guides were cautious of the weather conditions and made necessary adjustments to the tour without compromising the overall experience.

Fantastic! Family of 4- kids are 12 & 14. Easy to find check in. Yummy fruit at meeting point. Then you drive in your own car about 30 minutes to parking spot. You leave everything at hotel or in car. They have a lock box for car keys. You will be fully submerged in water and need both of your hands for walking/ climbing. They take pictures for you. Embrace the mud! So gorgeous and something we have never done anywhere else. Went in April. No bugs in rainforest (crazy- I know!). Paula and Nina were fantastic. So helpful with hike and telling you where to put your feet in tough passages, etc. 100% would do again!

This was such a fun experience! Our guides were great and took plenty of pic throughout our tour. We had considered checking out the forest ourselves, but we were really glad we spent the $ and did this as a tour.

It was an amazing experience! What a beautiful rainforest and breathtaking views! Our tour guides, Paola and Nina, made the entire excursion the best ever!!!! They made everyone feel safe, protected, and were so encouraging! I will say you have to be in good shape to be physically able to participate in all of the activities and I was worried about slipping and sliding but Paola and Nina were so patient with me and understanding and never made me feel like I was a nuisance! I highly recommend this tour and these two tour guides!!!

Our rainforest adventure was amazing! Jean and Bradley were fantastic guides. We had a much smaller group than most which was a definite bonus. So much fun!!! Natural water slide, cliff jumping, rope swing were the highlights. Can’t say enough good things about the experience

El Yunque Great Adventure!

This was a terrific adventure. El Yunque is beautiful. The guides (Rene and Nina) were engaging and professional. They share lots of information about the park, its creatures and plants as well as info about PR history and current life. The hike in was just enough of a challenge while still allowing us to take in the sights. Definitely prepare for mud and wear hiking sandals/boots or athletic shoes. The waterslide, “cliff” jump and rope swing were added bonuses. The guides also were aware of what was going on around, kept track of all in group and encouraged but didn’t push. We felt safe and they seemed to think of everything from snacks to photos to a changing tent to get into dry clothes. We would do this trip with Island Adventures again.
