What To Expect

Learn how rum is made and sample some of St. Maarten’s best rum on this small-group distillery tour and tasting. Book ahead to secure your preferred time slot, then make your way to Topper’s Rhum Distillery in Cole Bay.

Follow your guide around the 6,000-square-foot (557-square-meter) distillery during your hands-on tour. Learn about the history of Caribbean rum making. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the fermentation, distillation, filtering, and blending process for Topper’s rum, and also learn how different flavored rums are created. You may even have the chance to try new flavors that are being developed.

The tour concludes in the tasting bar, where you can try unlimited samples of the many commercial rum products Topper produces, as well as their rhum cake, and shop for souvenirs.

Our tour on 5/15/24 was great. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, funny, and kept everyone engaged. And the rhum was delicious! Make sure to try the gelato or the gelato waffle taco!

The Topper Rhum tour was Great! Everyone was nice, the location was easy to find and I loved all the varieties of the rhum. It was fun learning all about the history of Rhum and parts of the island. I'll recommend everyone to go.

Christina was an excellent guide! She shared lots of fun facts! Pam and Tosha got to make us some yummy chicken! Chris and Dee got to help bottle some. Then the tasting of all of the different varieties of rum finished the official tour! Dinner at the restaurant with Pierre ( the best waiter) followed by karaoke topped off the evening! So much fun!!!

The Distillery is off the beaten path in St. Maarten, but well worth the drive. Topper's manufacturers several flavored rums, all which were very good. We stayed for lunch after the tour.

It was a wonderful tour. Our tour guide was very personable and a lot of fun. The tour included tasting lots of sampling. And not just Rhum but chicken, dip, cake and gelato all made with Rhum. The amount of flavors available were amazing.

I had an amazing experience. The tour lady Ms C was from Spain and was so informative and knowledgeable on the rhums, background, and the process of it. One of my top favorite experiences in St Maarten. I was even able to cook with the rhum. A lot of taste testing involved which I loved. I think I took about 20 little shots of different rhums.

We had a fantastic tour with Cristina. We not only learned all about rum and it's production, but we were able to have some hands on fun with one of us cooking up some chicken in some delicious rum and seasonings to all have a taste! I was impressed by the amount of flavors they make! We brought home a bottle of the guavaberry and will share it with friends one summer weekend soon! The restaurant on site was great as well. We had a delicious meal overlooking the marina and had fun and attentive staff. Thank you for a fun and informative afternoon. 💜Toppers is a great small hands on business and we will continue to support them from afar. All for Rhum and Rhum for all!! 😉

Enjoyable intimate experience

Very small group so it was a personal experience. Fun guide Cristina was knowledgeable, cheerful and entertaining (and very attractive). We all had fun snacking and tasting the rum. Rum was good, but mostly flavored, so I didn’t purchase any, but I know others loved many of them! I’d recommend this tour and then dining in the restaurant there. Nice view and friendly folks. Book your ride home in advance!!

Ash was a great tour guide! She was knowledgeable and funny. The distillery itself bright and airy and it was nice to enjoy and drink at the bar. We didn’t have any food but it looked delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves. I would highly recommend. And that’s not the 23 shots of rhum talking lol!

We had a fun time at Topper's Rhum Factory...which also includes a very pleasant restaurant and ice cream bar. Our tour guide was delightful and shared the history of rhum production as well as the way in which Topper's came to be based in Simpson Bay. There were lots of tastes of different flavors - really delightful - and we saw every step of the process concluding with bottling. We left with a bottle of my favorite (guavaberry rhum) and then enjoyed a delicious lunch, looking out at the water. And then - ice cream, flavored with rhum. A fun day for sure!
