Overview

Learn more about traditional Japanese culture on a half-day sumo wrestling tour. You’ll get exclusive access to a sumo training stable, where you’ll watch the wrestlers training and get the chance to take photos at the end. After, share a meal with the wrestlers. You can try their traditional chanko nabe dish, designed to provide energy for the athletes. Your guide will tell you all about sumo history and culture.

Great insight to the world of sumo

There are a few tours that allow you to visit sumo stables but I picked this one based on its reviews and the fact that you get to eat a chanko nabe lunch cooked by the wrestlers. I'm glad I did. The guides were very knowledgeable about sumo and super helpful; Ryoko even asked for the chanko recipe on my behalf and sent me one after the tour was done. The stable is called Asahiyama-beya i believe and houses a wrestler from Israel whose quite well known in the sumo world for his dedication to move across the world to become a pro sumo wrestler. Lucky for us, he also spoke several European languages so we were able to have a good Q&A after the training while eating our chanko. And yes you can take a few picks with the wrestlers and try and push one but the last part is not so easy.

Nice experience in the real sumo world

Very good organization. Very nice guide who took the time to explain us the Sumo world before arriving to the sumo stable. Once there we could watch the sumo training practice, it was not made up, it was a regular practice session. Very impressive to see. The sumo were very nice and passionate about their discipline, we had good exchanges after their practice. I recommend this tour.

A Must Do!

This was truly an amazing experience! There are many sumo experiences to choose from, and this one is the best because you’re able to sit in a seat instead of the ground. You get to taste the food the wrestlers eat and there also an opportunity to wear a kimono for pictures. The pick up and drop off location are very convenient and the guides are helpful in directing you elsewhere afterwards if you didn’t want to return to the same point. A highlight in our trip!

An Unforgettable Experience

This was such a great experience to have on my last day in Japan. Ryoko was a great, supportive and informative guide. We truly appreciated meeting the master of the training faculty and his students. We were welcomed to witness the practice personally and it was amazing to see the techniques up close and hear the history. We would definitely recommend booking this experience.

Unique way to Sumo in action

What an amazing experience and unique way to see sumo in action! I had seen a real sumo match in Tokyo, but this was something completely different. To be so close to the wrestlers and hear everything made this feel so different. Going to a local neighborhood to see where they train and live was also fun. My husband and son (8 years old) both loved getting their pictures with some of the wrestlers, who were all great. The guides on the tour were wonderful and very knowledgeable. They were both able to provide insight into the sport of sumo and what was going on during the practice. All around, a fantastic experience!

Unique Experience

If you were only to do one thing in Tokyo, this tour is a must. Learned so much about Sumo from the history through to how Sumo tournaments work. Being able to watch sumo wrestlers train was something else. Our guides Ryoko and Tomer were very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely a must do tour.

Fabulous experience for the whole family. Amazing to see the sumo training and to be part of their day. The stable master was very welcoming and the sumo wrestlers were very friendly and made the day perfect. The guides were very knowledgeable and took extra care to make sure we knew what was happening and where to go. Very well planned and executed day! 5 stars for sure.

Stable master was very welcoming as well as the sumo wrestlers. Fabulous practice in the comfort of sitting on chairs. Chanko nabe was delicious. Wrestlers were fun to take pictures with. Excellent guides (Ryoko and Tomer). Provided us all the information and help we needed. Not a far walk from the station to the stable. Attention was provided to everyone!

Incredible View of the Sumo World!

This was an excellent view into the world of Sumo. Well organized - received very detailed instructions for meeting the group and our 2 tour guides were excellent- Furutono and Zane - and were so informative and gave us so much background info and history on Sumo before we arrived at the stable. This was an unforgettable experience- seeing their warm ups, a one hour practice, even getting to put on a kimono and have a picture with the wrestlers. It took awhile to get there on the trains- but was great to have this once in a lifetime experience!!! Can’t thank our tour guides and stable master and wrestlers enough for this unforgettable day!

An unforgettable morning at a sumo stable

We had wanted to see a sumo tournament as an opportunity to experience a uniquely Japanese sport. As there were none happening during our trip we took in this sumo stable visit as the next best thing. It was really worthwhile. We watched the wrestlers training, which included bouts against each other. We also sampled the food that they eat and got to have photos and interact with the sumos. The owner of this stable is a former champion sumo and he was friendly and posed for photos too.

Amazing Sumo Experience

The 'World of Sumo' Tour was fantastic. Our family had an amazing experience witnessing an authentic training session for the sumo wrestlers of this stable. They worked hard and demonstrated their strength and flexibility. We had the opportunity to "test" the strength of one of the sumo by allowing us to challenge them with a pushing match - which the sumo was just a wall of muscle that we could not budge AT ALL. One of the sumo shared their story of how their love of sumo was started when they were young - it was a touching story and made us all hope for his success in his endeavors. Another sumo was responsible for preparing the chanko nabe stew which was so delicious. We were happily surprised! We also had the honor to meet Kotonishiki Katsuhiro, who started this stable after his sumo championships. You truly feel and see the beauty, dedication, and honor, of the sport in how respectful the sumo are to their sensei. Truly amazing - thank you for an amazing time!

It was amazing to see the sumo wrestlers in such close proximity. Very interesting to see the practice session and coaching by a former grand master sumo wrestler. Our guides were very pleasant, helpful, informative, and well organized. We appreciated the opportunity to try and budge a wrestler out of the ring, try on a kimono, photo opportunities, meal, and the ability to sit on chairs.
