Upon arrival at the camp, get a chance to feed the herd of reindeer. This herd is the source of their livelihood, a tradition for the Sami people, who are historically nomadic. Try out some lasso throwing on a practice target, gaining an appreciation of how the Sami manage their herd.

After the feeding, make your way inside the lavuu, or traditional tent, to warm up. Listen to stories and facts about the people's culture, traditions, and history. Enjoy a lunch of bidos, a type of soup, and cake with coffee. Hear a performance of a joik, a song in the native Sami style.

Seeing the raindeer is amazing
Ema_P, Apr 2024
It was amazing seeing the raindeer, definitely worth taking the tour! We first fed the raindeer, then ate a raindeer stew and listened to some Sami people stories.
Sami Experience and Reindeer Feeding
Lisa_J, Apr 2024
Such a wonderful few hour's. Highly recommend this trip. Feeding the Reindeer was amazing, as was our Sami host (I’m so sorry but l don’t remember your name; l do remember that you speak Northern Sami and are 21 years old). She was very knowledgeable and informative. Highlight of the trip was her talk and joik. The reindeer stew, Bidos and chocolate cake were also both excellent. My only reason for dropping one star was that the check in with the tour operator was confusing, unclear and disorganised which resulted in departing late, the lack of direction from them at the venue, meant that we ended up in the wrong tent along with many other guests.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Lisa, Thank you for your fantastic review and a recommendation! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the Sami storytelling part of the tour, and joik in particular. It is a very personal experience and it was a pleasure to share it with you! We also appreciate your feedback with suggestions on improvement. We will forward your comments regarding the pickup to our respective team and will work on developing our services even further. Thank you again for visiting us, and welcome back to Tromsø Arctic Reindeer! 🦌

It’s not bad, but nothing special either. We think it’s better to explore yourself than to go on these kind of tours.
Response from Host, Mar 2024

Expensive but amazing experience
Danika_P, Mar 2024
From all the tours we did while in Tromso, the staff during this tour was the most professional and organized. It was expensive as most tours here are but we enjoyed it very much and would do it again. The food at the end of the trip was also very good.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Danika, Thank you for your kind review! We are happy to hear your positive feedback on our Tromsø Arctic Reindeer staff. Your review has been forwarded to the team and we are very grateful for your kind words! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the activity and would like to do it again. Welcome back - we look forward to meeting you again in the future!
Reindeer up close and short introduction to Sami culture
Robert_S, Mar 2024
Really nice experience. Despite being a large group, you could wander around the corral and feed the reindeer and experience them up close. There was also sufficient time for that. Afterwards, there was soup and above all a very interesting and serious introduction to what being a Sami means now, and their colonisation.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Robert, Thank you for an excellent review! We are glad to hear that you had enough time to wander around the camp and discover the area at your own pace. Hopefully you enjoyed the stunning Arctic landscape! We are also grateful for your feedback on the Sami storytelling, it was a pleasure to share our knowledge and experience with you. Welcome back to Tromsø Arctic Reindeer!
Great visit but could be shirter
James_J, Mar 2024
Nice visit but reindeer feeding part went too long which made for a much longer tour than necessary to get the desired experience
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear James, Thank you for visiting us and sharing your feedback! We hope you enjoyed the visit and got a chance to learn more about the Sami culture and the reindeers with us. Welcome back!
Terrible check-in process; minimal Sami expowure
Joanne_Z, Mar 2024
For a well-established tour organizer, the check-in process was ridiculously unorganized. There was no line, and attendees had to repeatedly wait in multiple lines (after initial unorganized check in) to finally be told where to go. Once there, the reindeer feeding is fun, and the food and service was redeeming hence the 3 stars. However, there were minimal spotlight on Sami story-telling/learning.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Joanne, Thank you for visiting us and sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience with us has been underwhelming and we sincerely apologise for the lack of the pickup organisation during your visit. We have forwarded your comments to our team and will address the points accordingly to improve our services even further. Our Sami guides share their personal experience and knowledge during the storytelling part of the tour, and we hope you had a chance to learn more about the local culture and lifestyle. It's however great to hear that you had a great time feeding the reindeers and enjoyed our traditional lunch in the lavvu! If you have any further feedback, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@tromsoarcticreindeer.com, we would be happy to discuss the matter further with you. Greetings from Tromsø!
Disappointing Tourist Trap
Cindy_G, Mar 2024
Disappointing at best. Expected Sami culture and interesting reindeer facts. . Talk focused on the difficulties of herding month by month and complaining about government regulation. Soup was cold. “Warm tent” was frigid. There was no singing and no storytelling. Reindeer were beautiful and interesting.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Cindy, Thank you for taking your time to leave a review for us! We are disappointed to hear that the tour didn't meet your expectations. Our Sami guides share their own experiences and knowledge during the storytelling, and everyone is welcome to ask any questions about the local culture and lifestyle. Please reach out to us at info@tromsoarcticreindeer.com if you would like to discuss the matter further. Greetings from Tromsø Arctic Reindeer!

Not worth it
Ivona_H, Mar 2024
In my view this experience is not worth £100 they charge for. It is basically a field of reindeers where you can take photos and the talk about Sami culture is very limited. It is a pure tourist attraction. Good for small children but that's about it. Compared to lots of other activities sadly this one was very poor.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Ivana, Thank you for visiting us and sharing a review! We are sorry to hear that the tour wasn't up to your expectations. Our day tours include transportation from the city centre and back, reindeer feeding, Sami storytelling, joiking, a traditional lunch and reindeer sledding on selected activities. Your visit also contributes to the wellbeing of the animals and preservation of the local culture. We are however again very sorry to hear that your experience hasn't been a positive one, and if you would like to discuss further please don't hesitate to contact us at info@tromsoarcticreindeer.com at your convenience. Thank you for your time, and have a wonderful day!
Great Experience!
Manisha_M, Feb 2024
It was an organized trip where you got to go to a nice reindeer farm. We were told stories by someone from the Sami community and we got to eat reindeer stew (vegetarian options were available).
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Manisha, Thank you for visiting us in Tromsø and sharing a review! We hope you had a great time with us, welcome back ❤️

Excellent leader and Sami instructor
Jory_W, Feb 2024
The Sami leader who talked with us was great, informative and very approachable as well as a good teacher. Reindeer were a bit scary but they had told us how to deal with them which was helpful. Enjoyed the reindeer stew.

Reindeer visit and lunch with Sami.
Patricia_S, Feb 2024
The Sami people were warm and welcoming. It was lovely to feed the reindeer. They explained their life and work. We were welcomed to use the lavvu to keep warm and there was hot chocolate, coffee, tea and cookies. Later we had lunch which was traditional reindeer stew (delicious) with a vegetable soup option also. Johan, the leader of this clan, then regaled us with stories of his childhood and current life. He then sang yoik for us. These were traditional songs honoring loved ones. This was a lovely experience. Our only issue was the check in process. Told to meet in front of a bar. No one there till after the assigned time and absolutely no order to checking people in. We had tickets on our phones with barcodes but the staff only had paper lists-pages of them. Ridiculous. No method or seats reserved for those with mobility issues. Other than that it was a good day.
Response from Host, Mar 2024

Skip this excursion
James_M, Feb 2024
The talk by the sami herder and owner of reindeer was the best part of this outing...this excursion was very disappointing. There was no tour guide and no one in charge. There was too much time with nothing to do but sit and wait.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Dear James, Many thanks for your feedback! We are very sorry to hear that the experience wasn't up to your expectations. It's however great to hear that you enjoyed learning more about the Sami culture with us! Sami people rock!
George_C, Feb 2024
We loved the Sami people and the reindeer also the countryside was gorgeous! The people on the trip were so accommodating when our 10 was canceled due to possible avalanche and got us in at the 1 o clock one!
