What To Expect

Venice is hard to say goodbye to–even for the day–but the Dolomites may help you forget about it for a few hours. After meeting your driver–guide, hop in your comfortable minivan and head north through the rustic Northern Italian landscape.

The first stop is the ski resort town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Take some free time here to go shopping in the chic boutiques, enjoy a coffee and dessert at a cafe or just explore the town before heading to your next stop.

Arrive at Lake Misurina, or the "Pearl of the Dolomites," as it is sometimes called. The lake is especially picturesque with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the background, three distinctive peaks that tower in the distance, and one of the most well-known mountain groups in the Alps. Drive toward the peaks and stop to get an amazing view.

Later, sit down at a local trattoria for a traditional Dolomite lunch (at own expense) and then take some free time to go on a stroll around the lake. Or, if you'd rather rest your legs, continue relaxing at the restaurant.

Meet up with your driver-guide at the set time and begin your journey back, arriving in Venice in the early evening.

Please note, the itinerary is adapted during the winter months due to lake closures and visits Cortina, Braies Lake, and San Candido.

Relaxing, beautiful day

I forgot to write this review after we went in September 2023, which is unfortunate, because this was an amazing day, and I wish I could remember the guide's name. He was amazing! It was a very small group tour (6 of us) which made it quite enjoyable, and our guide was funny, considerate of everyone, and was a very safe driver. We had free time to walk around the beautiful mountain village, stopped at a wonderful bakery (Lovat Gelateria) and bought the best wine of our lives in a general store of all places. Our guide took us to a couple of other beautiful spots for some amazing pictures, since we we all on time and considerate of each other. Then, when we got to Lago di Misurina, we had plenty of time for a relaxing walk around the lake, hike around a little hill for some better pictures, and to stop in at Tre Cime Bar for a lunch and a couple of cold beers. Our guide even brought us to a lovely spot for gelato afterward. This was just a wonderful day! We've spent some time in Venice before, so we planned this relaxing day after our flight and before our cruise. I'm so glad we booked an extra day in Venice simply to take this trip.

Driver was great, car was comfortable. I felt very safe, and the car was immaculately clean; like, it must’ve just gotten detailed that morning. Plenty of opportunities to use the restroom, get snacks, take pictures, stretch your legs. I went in mid March and there was still some snow and ice in some parts, especially the first stop. Dress warm and bring shoes with grip, shoes you don’t mind getting a little snowy. The restaurant was ok, the bread was a little stale but maybe that was just that day. The server guy was so nice, the woman not as much. The driver gave us plenty of time at each stop to explore and take pics. He was patient and very knowledgeable about the place. If you’re a parent with kids, PLEASE give them AirPods or something. The entire ride we had to listen to little kids watching videos and playing on their iPad. It’s a small car so everyone can hear it and it takes away the relaxing aspect of the drive through nature.

View of snow lad mountains and lovely scenic route. We were lucky that it was sunny and pleasant in the mountains. Driver/guide Nicola was pleasant and provided necesaary information. We saw three lakes of which two (Braies and Missurina) were frozen. The last one was an artificial lake Santa Caterina which was a good stop. I wish we had more time in Cortina, but overall highly recommended.

Directions to pick up point were not good. They were very unclear you could come by boat. Driver was great. Diego was helpful and very responsive. The scenery was gorgeous. We had an amazing meal in San Candido a Piedi at Wiesthaler. Food was perfecto. It is a long day but a great trip.

What a great day. Max was early (as were we). So, we got on the road early. Went by the infamous Vajont Dam (heckuva story) and then up into the Dolomites. What a great day visiting beautiful lakes and villages. Max was gracious and very informative. Did a tiny bit of shopping. Lunch venue had great views, but the worst food. Cannot be perfect.

Marco (the driver) was nice but barely spoke English. The weather was not on our side, nobodies fault. Its about 6hrs drive total for 2 stops to Shop and eat. The walk around the lake is about 20 minutes. For me, its not worth the price.

I understand that day the weather was not ideal to tour, and I'm sorry about that .the drive to and back from the dolomites is about 4 hrs and we spend time between Cortina, Lake Misurina where we give ample time for lunch and optional walk as well as making other stops at view points. Visiting the mountains will remain with us always. The views were amazing although cloud cover spoiled some. The only issue was a very uncomfortable ride in the vehicle. Very squashed and three people traveled backwards. Not good enough for a tour like this.

We selected this day trip not really knowing what to expect and the Dolomites did not disappoint. It was cold and rainy but it didn't matter at all because the views were still absolutely beautiful.! We had trouble locating the meeting place but the tour company was easy to reach and helped us locate our guide Max (Masimo). The van seated 8 passengers and since we were the last to join the group we had to sit up front with Max & boy was I happy we did because the views were incredible on the way!!! Max provided history during the drive, got us to each point of interest safely and even took us to a couple locations for breathtaking views that were not part of the tour....THANK YOU MAX! We had lunch at a local restaurant which was delicious. We ordered schnitzel and fried mushrooms....yum! A person in our group complained about Max's driving and the lunch options. We felt that Max got us to our destinations safely and wasn't driving any faster than the local traffic, we should know because we were sitting right next to him. Regarding lunch: we go on vacation with no expectations, then we aren't disappointed. We visit new places on purpose in order to try new things. How can you complain about lunch when it is optional?
