Overview

Enjoy an evening around the campfire in a beautiful location. This tour takes you into a private canyon, which has been used often as a filming location. There, you'll meet a her od Texas longhorns, gather around the campfire, make s'mores with homemade marshmallows, and learn all about the star-studded night sky.

Cowboy John was fabulous! It was an evening to remember. The scenery, his knowledge, his willingness to accommodate, definitely a highlight of our trip.

Great experience. Cowboy John was amazing. We had a great time. We learned a lot about the movies and stars. He told us great stories and made our night amazing. I strongly recommend it.

We rode in a military truck out to the ranch, saw a couple longhorn from a distance and then told about all the lovely longhorn that we could pet if they weren’t at the sunflower hill. Gotta respect the sunflower craving! The stories went a little long in the tooth prob to make up for the cloudy night. Marshmallows were yummy!

Cowboy John was so nice, full of incredible stories and knowledge, and the experience was amazing! The stars were so bright, the campfire warm, and the smores delicious. Highly, highly recommend! We traveled with kids and Cowboy John did such a great job engaging them too.

This was a perfect ending to a full day of activities. Our guide John meet us promptly at the arranged time. We traveled into the dark of night far from the town onto private property where there were longhorns, a campfire, and parts of an old movie set. John then entertained our group with Kanab and surrounding areas trivia, history, stories and I believe some tall tales. He was very entertaining, funny and interesting. We later roasted smores and star gazed before our return trip home. The whole experience recieves a 9 out of 10 stars. I had to deduct 1 star due to my distaste for the cow poop I stepped in. I highly recommend this fun event to anyone, any age.

Stargazing and s’mores

A picture-perfect night in Kanab! We loved the chance for stargazing in a dark-sky designated space. Cowboy John was a great guide with fun stories. We learned about longhorns, met friendly steer, and learned how to make the perfect s’more. This was a terrific experience!

Very cool experience! Cowboy John was awesome and kept us laughing with his stories and tales of the movies filmed here. We loved being able to see and pet all the longhorn cows! Stargazing by the fire with s’mores and ghost stories was amazing!

This outing exceeded our expectations. Cowboy John was the best. Make sure you get him when you book this tour. He gave us a lot of information about Kanab and this area. The s’mores were better than regular s’mores. And he did a great job at pointing out the stars and the planets (and the ISS and several satellites). We highly recommend this excursion.

Best part of the evening was getting up close and personal with the long horn cattle on the drive to the campfire. Campfire stories revolved around the guide; all stories seemed to come back to him and his friends/acquaintances. S'Mores were yummy, but when aren't they?

After a tenuous drive into the darkness we arrived at the site and campfire. Cowboy John told great stories of the hundreds of movies and movie stars in Kanab. The night sky was amazing and John told us all about that too. For the s’mores be sure to try Jamie’s homemade marshmallows!!

So much fun! Cowboy John was very friendly and had a lot of great stories. We saw the cows (they are such babies!). Also I know other people mentioned there wasn’t much stargazing but we had quite a bit. He had a really powerful pointer and was able to point out constellations so I thought that part was actually really informative so they must have taken the feedback.

We really enjoyed our Campfire S’Mores and Stars evening in Kanab. Cowboy John knows a lot about the local history of the area and it was interesting to hear about the many movies and shows filmed here. The full moon on our night made the stargazing not as spectacular as we had hoped, and the longhorns decided not to come to the barn that evening, but we still enjoyed the overall experience.

Beautiful landscape, Ken’s family has been in Kanab for six generations. He’s a wealth of local knowledge. Meeting the longhorns and angus cattle was amazing!!! We had a great time!!

No stars-Still 5 Star Experience

This S’mores and Stars tour was excellent. Even though the night we were in town with stormy and cloudy and we barely saw any stars, cowboy John made this time memorable for my family regardless. He let my 12-year-old daughter choose the vehicle that we drove to the ranch in. She chose the hummer and it was an open air ride with tiered seats so everyone had a little bit of a view. It was our first ride in a real military style hummer so the kids thought that was pretty cool. He also showed her how to check put his six cheater was loaded versus unloaded. Yeah on the way to the ranch where they do the campfire and s’more‘s, we stopped at the Longhorn cattle area. We got out and everyone got to pet some longhorn cattle and see the six and 8 foot expanse of the biggest ones. The horns are amazing and we learned that they are actually warm to the touch because they have blood flow within the horns! This was educational, opportunity to see something we wouldn’t see back home in Tennessee! cowboy John also let my daughter ride on the back of the turn list little guy. He was also very safety conscious and cautious about where we were standing in order to keep us safe in case the cows swing their heads to push away the flies. We saw some deer grazing and he took the time to pull a side and let us snap a few photos, and also took the time to take us to a Wellet gas station to get a photo of our whole family with the Hummer. He was very patient and truly cared that we had a great experience. This was another five star experience for my family. Even though we really went for the stargazing time there was a new moon and we’re disappointed about the stars, they made the experience fun and memorable for us.
