Glenwood Springs trip ideas
Start by riding a gondola up 7,100 feet (2,164 meters) to the top of Iron Mountain. At Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, enjoy thrilling attractions, including the Haunted Mine Drop, Alpine Coaster, Giant Canyon Swing, Soaring Eagle Zip Ride, the Cliffhanger roller coaster, and Glenwood Canyon Flyer. Regularly scheduled cave tours give visitors a peek at geological formations inside this Colorado mountain range.
Three levels of admission allow access to just the tram/gondola ride, the tram and cave tour, or to all attractions, the tram, and the cave tour. There are also movies and live entertainment with an old-fashioned Western theme, such as a blacksmith demonstration, and rides designed for younger children.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is ideal for thrill-seekers and families with children.
Cave tours can fill quickly, so arrive several minutes before the tour time to ensure a spot.
Several rides have height and weight limits, and some attractions are not recommended for people with a fear of heights.
Participants must sign liability waivers before they can ride any attractions.
The tram and adventure park are wheelchair accessible, but cave tours cannot accommodate wheelchairs or strollers.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, off I-70 between Vail and Aspen. It’s recommended that drivers take exit 114 rather than the main Glenwood exit. Free parking is available near the entrance to the gondola/tram. If taking an Amtrak train from Denver to Glenwood Springs, the park is less than 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) from the train station.
The park is open year-round for gondola rides and cave tours, but some attractions are seasonal. Weather conditions can cause the gondola to shut down periodically, so check for closings before heading to the park. March through October can provide ideal weather for a visit—summer brings warm weather and cool mountain breezes, while winter can be very cold.
Perched atop a 1,300-foot (396-meter) drop at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, the Giant Canyon Swing has earned international attention, showcased by the Travel Channel and called “one of the most extreme rides” by USA Today. It’s so intense that the park’s owner has refused to ride it more than once.
