The basics
One of the most striking churches in the Val d’Orcia, the stately Tempio di San Biagio is built in a Greek cross plan and houses the 14th-century fresco of the Enthroned Madonna and Child, or the Madonna of San Biagio, which is said to have miraculous powers. For many, the main appeal of the Temple of San Biagio is the view of the church from afar, when its marble facade catches the sunlight, setting the church aglow amid the surrounding forests and fields.

When to get there
The church is open year-round, but is particularly beautiful to see in the fall (before the grapes are harvested) when the surrounding vineyards start turning a deep red. Photographers will want to capture the golden light of dusk as it hits the church.
