Stop at the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, Beluga Point and Bird Point to get different vantage points on the Turnagain Arm, and look for wildlife such as moose, caribou and eagles. The Turnagain Arm is a narrow branch of the Cook Inlet, which connects to the Gulf of Alaska.

On the sprawling refuge, injured and orphaned wild animals are rehabilitated, including large Alaskan land animals like grizzly bears, wood bison, caribou, moose, musk ox and deer. Relaxing tour.

Really enjoyed this tour. Phil was VERY knowledgeable about names and histories and pointed out many different animals and things we would have missed. Nice laid back tour about 4-5 hours. Relaxing tour.

Great Alaskan Wildlife Tour Around the Anchorage Area
John_R, Jul 2023
We had an excellent tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and the beautiful areas on the way to it and around the Anchorage area. Scott is super knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. He gave us lots of relevant information and answered our questions. He was super thoughtful and helpful, even providing us with water and granola bars. I would very much recommend this tour.
Great tour!

It was a rainy day but our guide Jared made it as interesting as possible always looking for sites and animals for us to see. He made a rainy day shine.

Phil was a great tour guide. He focused on making sure we got to see everything and took the time to make sure we did. Very knowledgeable, informative, and enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
It's ok
Huay_W, Jun 2023
Saw Dall sheeps perched on steep hill sides. Very cool. The rest of the tour was average, the operator was very knowledgeable and gave interesting info. As for the sights, we saw animals enclosed in the fences in the wildlife preserve. All in all, I thought it was average.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Thanks for the review. I agree that the Dall sheep was amazing. It’s not always the case that you can view the sheep as close as we did that day. On this day you had the 4 hr. Wildlife tour which visits the conservation center and travels along the Turnagain Arm. We saw all of the bears and all the animals were very active on this particular day. Yes, the animals are in enclosed areas but the center has over 200 acres that allows the animals to roam freely within their enclosed areas. It is a Conservation Center that cares for injured, stranded or orphaned animals and many of these animals would probably die if it’s not for the care they receive at this facility. Since we had such a beautiful day on this particular day, your guide extended your tour by an extra hour so that everyone could enjoy the amazing views from high atop the Chugach Mountains. We are disappointed that you felt the tour was “average”. Wish that you would have commented on how we could have made the tour better. This is a very popular tour that consistently gets high ratings from our guests. Thanks for visiting Alaska. Albert

Phil was awesome. So knowledgeable, and friendly. Attention to details and so helpful, even offering a hand to step out of van. A true gentleman. Wish we had more time to book another tour with him.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. Had a great time. Phil knew a great deal about the history of the area and was happy to answer any question.
Worth a visit!
James_G, Jun 2022
Seeing a grizzly up close was the highlight for us. Very few animals were 'on show' during our visit which was disappointing.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed our bear at the Wildlife Conservation Center. We always like to show you all the animals but with the warm weather we've been having this summer, sometimes its hard to view all animals. Although is comfortably nice for us humans, these warm temperatures can be hard on some of the animals. They prefer to stay cool by limiting their movements and often seek shady areas. Hope that you enjoyed your visit in Alaska. Thanks for choosing us!!

Albert made a great tour even better
Mary_N, Aug 2021
This was our list tour before leaving Alaska and we certainly went out with a bang. Our guide, Albert, was outstanding! He has lived in Alaska for a long time and was very knowledgeable about the state and the wildlife we went to see. We cruised along the highway watching for mountain goats and beluga whales (pretty sure I saw one) and went to the Alaskan Wildlife Animal Rescue, which was simply amazing. He talked about all the animals, gave us time to roam on our own but also joined us for much of the tour to discuss the animals and their habitat. This is a must do if you go to Alaska.
