Overview

Fly to a landing point high on Tasman Glacier on a helicopter tour that includes a spectacular fly-by of Mount Cook (Aoraki). A guided hike on the glacier explores remote snow fields and ice formations at roughly 4,265 ft. (1,300 mt.), where you’ll use crampons or snow shoes to cross terrain that’s otherwise only accessible with an arduous overland journey.

The turn off to Aoraki/Mt Cook is on SH8 by Lake Pukaki. Driving east this can be found 8kms from Twizel and driving west, 50kms from Lake Tekapo. Turn onto SH80, which leads you to the Mt Cook Village. 6kms from the Village, follow signs to the Mt Cook airport.

Great experience from beginning to end. Flav was a wonderful guide. Showed us plenty of great things on the glacier with time to take pictures to commemorate our experience. Friendly and knowledgeable. Weather was iffy so we were waiting until the last minute to see if it was safe to go but we were updated timely. Definitely would recommend! Appreciated that they switched around the seating so that everyone got a window or front seat view in the helicopter either coming or going.

Incredible experience

We had an incredible experience on the heli hike tour. Everything was well organised, and our guide, Pawel was very knowledgeable and made the hike a lot of fun. We got to see some very cool glacial formations, and had plenty of opportunities to take photos. Highly recommended.

Incredible experience! Thanks to the team who helped me rebook due to weather and even find a spot for my husband to join me. Hiking a glacier is such an amazing experience and our guide Richard made sure we saw everything! A must do activity if you are in the area.

Tasman glacier, a great experience

A very high professional standard was clear from the first moment. We had clear instructions about safety and behavior on the ice and in the heli. The heli pilot gave us a good fly over parts of the glacier and then we landed.Our guide Rich was superb. Friendly, attentive and full of knowledge. Thanks Rich for a great time. We visited an ice tunnel and a cave and watched several small avalanches, marched in the fresh snow and had a great time.

Had so much fun with the crew, instructor is professional also. The experience is fresh. We were so lucky because of the weather permit. Such a good place to take photos and show off to your friends, although it’s a little expensive but definitely worth doing it . Add something different and adventurous to your trip.

We were booked for the early morning tour, but the weather wasn’t favorable so they rebooked us for an afternoon tour. I’m so glad we waited and did the tour, it was one of the most amazing experiences. Our guide was super nice and very knowledge. Definitely a must do in NZ.
