Great day in Mysore

I had a great day with my driver Vijay and my two tour guides (Kumar at Tipu Palace and Rupesh at Mysore Palace). I was a cautious about finding the right tour because I was traveling as a solo woman, and this tour was perfect. I felt completely safe and comfortable the whole time. Mysore Palace was my favorite part of the day, but I enjoyed everything. Lunch on a banana leaf was a special treat, as was walking around the marketplace and seeing all the different types of vendors.

This is a long day, so be prepared, but I found it to be a fabulous experience made so much better by my guides. My driver was Suresh and he kept me informed for the whole day, nothing was too much trouble and I would recommend him to anyone. Sri Rangpattna Palace was wonderful with the artwork and history explained clearly by guide Lunar. Similarly at Mysore Palace with guide Rubesh it was a feast for the eyes and mind. Lunch was traditional and plentiful, an experience in itself! I only had a couple of days in Bangalore and this was an ideal way to spend one of them. As a solo traveller it was not cheap, but I feel I got what I paid for. I cannot praise the guides highly enough. Organisation from booking to completion was excellent.

Great way to see Mysore's highlights

We had a great day exploring Mysore. Our guide, Prashant, maintained good communication prior to our trip. He also arranged for us to be picked up and dropped back to our hotel directly although it was on the other side of the city to the standard pickup locations, which was extremely handy (for an additional pre agreed cost). Although we had booked this as a private tour, we had been asked if we could have an additional guest on the tour with us. We were able to confirm a few details prior to agreeing. While this was not ideal, overall it didn’t have a great impact - we still kept the same schedule that we had agreed to prior to the tour. We were provided with water throughout the day and Prashant, and our driver, were mindful to find us bathrooms when it was needed (I’d still recommend taking some toilet paper with you on this trip as it was not commonly found). Given it was the Saturday of a long weekend, the traffic was worse than anticipated, but the drive was comfortable. It was interesting to see the silk worms in a local village and learn a bit more about the silk production process. Though this wasn’t something on the original tour itinerary, we are happy this was added. Mysore Palace was great, it was good to have an informative guide at the location, and skip the various queues. Prashant assisted with taking photos throughout which was very handy. He was very patient given I do tend to fall behind to take lots of photos, but ensured I didn’t lose the group or get lost in the crowds. We loved the Devaraja Market, and to have the opportunity to visit some of the shops etc. Prashant made it very clear we were under no obligation to make any purchases anywhere we visited. We had a lunch on the go as the morning traffic had set us back, but they ensured we got to the Somnathpur Temple on time, which was amazingly detailed and worth the visit! We even had time to stop for some famous Mysore Pak on the way back. While it was a lot to squeeze into one day, it was very enjoyable and we are really happy we had the chance to see the highlights of Mysore with our limited schedule.
