What To Expect

Greet your guide at the central Brussels meeting point. Climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned coach and admire the scenic surroundings as your travel towards the town of Vladslo. Disembark and explore the German Military Cemetery of Vladslo, a poignantly peaceful area that features the famous sculpture by Käthe Kollwitz, 'Grieving Parents.'

Next, venture to the small city of Diksmuide and see a stretch of the Western Front that symbolizes Belgium’s courage and heroism during the conflict. See impressive monuments such as the monument of the "Brooding Soldier" dedicated to the sacrifice of 2,000 Canadian soldiers during the first German gas attack.

Head to the Flanders' Field Museum and hear fascinating tales of violent warfare and the dank conditions soldiers lived in then enrich your knowledge with the comprehensive exhibitions.

Stop at the somnolent town of Passchendaele and discover how a bloody battlefield underwent a radical transformation into this quaint place. Then head to the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery to reflect upon the 35,000 graves that immortalize the memory of fallen soldiers.

Next, travel to Essex Farm Field Hospital and see the bunkers that inspired John McCrae to write his influential poem, 'In Flanders’ Field.'

Venture to Hill 60 to see some strategic tunnels then disembark at the picturesque town of Ypres to enjoy some independent exploration and dinner (own expense). Reconvene with your guide at a pre-arranged time to witness to soul-stirring Last Post Ceremony at Ypres’ Menin Gate. Absorb the saddening simplicity of the service then return to your vehicle for the drive back to Brussels.

Absolutely amazing guide and tour! Our guide was Johan, and he adapted the visit to the nationalities of the people on board. If you're from the Commonwealth, and if you're into WW1 history, this is the tour to book!

The guide was absolutely knowledgeable and well spoken on the history. It was well worth the time. My only wish we had time to go to the American Cemetery or it was on the list to go see. I highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Wonderful, emotional trip. Highly recommend!

Amazing knowledgable guide, (Dietrich - I think) very factual enjoyable trip. The lunch and drink provided was great. Ypres was gorgeous, lovely to have some time there before watching the service in front of Menin gate.
Exceeded expectations

This was a trip I had on my bucket list & it exceeded my expectations. Diederik, our guide, was knowledgeable & I learnt so much from his explanation of events of Flanders Fields & WW1. It is a long tour but well worth the time. I will not forget this tour. Also thank you to our wonderful, patient bus driver, Stephan.

Hearing the story and visiting the places, wonderful friendly driver and the tour leader was passionate and committed to making sure we enjoyed the experience
An amazing 12 hours.

What an informative day. Deitrich combined the perfect blend of solemnity, information and humour to make a long, full day, enjoyable. Some stops felt a bit rushed, but to be fair, there was a lot to see and do. As a 🇨🇦, it was a poignant experience.
Great

The history given by the gentleman doing the tour. He was excellent. He made history come alive for all to hear.
Pilgrimage to Flanders WW I
James_M, Oct 2023
Our tour guide Diderick was very knowledgeable about WW I, the battles at Ypres and Passchendale, and the Commonwealth cemeteries of Flanders. He expertly guided us to numerous sites, gave us a wealth of information, and kept our tour on time. In his own words, this is more of a pilgrimage than a tour. I recommend it!

The ceremony at the Menen Gate was very moving. The various grave sites and battle sites were very sad. The loss of life was unforgivable.

The guide was extremely knowledgeable and was constantly providing information and stories about the places we were seeing and the history behind them. Loved every minute of it, as did my wife, who experienced the horrors and facts about WW1 first hand for the very first time.
Response from Host, Sep 2023

Amazing Tour and Guide
Aaron_S, Aug 2023
This was an amazing way to see and experience the WWI history and battles of Ypres. Stefan was an incredible tour guide and I would recommend anyone interested in history to take this tour!
Stefan our host made this trip so interesting. We had a grand day and everything I had imagined was fulfilled.

Menin gate 'Last Post' and the journey to places that gave a greater awareness of the whole tragic 4 years.
Good tourist's overview, not for military enthusiasts. Inaccurate presentation of WWI
Stefan_B, Aug 2023
It was a very good selection and order of places to see in the Salient. Langemark, Polygon Wood, Tyne Cot, and the Gravenstaffel and Passchendale hills. Guide caters to which nationalities are on the tour (ie. ANZACs, Canadians, Americans, Brits). But note: this is not a tour for military buffs. The guide clearly did not know that much about the Great War. He spent far too much time giving random tangents about Belgian language and history. Not much about life in the trenches or the importance/course of events in the Salient. What he did say was largely either misleading or inaccurate. I just went on my own at each stop, but it was impossible to escape him on the bus.

What an excellent trip. Our guide was knowledgeable and tailored the day to suit those on board. Although it's a long day and packed full of sights it is not overwhelming and perfectly paced. We'll done to all involved.
Lest we forget

Very interesting, memorable and respectful treatment of WW1. A must for history enthusiasts. Our guide, Deitrich, was very eell informed about the war, the cemetaries and the monuments. The "last post" in Ypres was short, 10 minutes, but very moving. Be prepared for lots of walking and a long day 9am-10:15pm.
Response from Host, Aug 2023

Very Informative Tour

This tour was comprehensive and covered a lot of ground, although at times it felt rushed and I would have liked a little more time at each place. Our guide was very knowledgeable and presented well.
Great experience.

This was a fabulous tour. It was very comprehensive and I feel that I got more than my money’s worth. The guide, Dieter, was extremely knowledgeable and seemed to tailor his commentary to the interests and nationalities of the tour passengers. My teenage son really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you are interested in this period of history.
