Amazing Petra and Bedouin Camp
Mary_M, Sep 2023
The trip to Petra was amazing. This was a once in a lifetime experience. Our tour guide was nice and knowledgeable, hats off to our driver who drove us safely back and forth. Our journey to Petra was very long, but all worth it. Don’t expect a nice toilet on your bathroom stops. Our driver and bus change in the border went smoothly. Just have enough money for the border taxes. So much to see in Petra, you have to walk at least 1hr in and 1hr out. Wear comfortable shoes. Or you can ride a gulf cart for $15 one way. People will keep asking you to buy stuff, ride a camel, or a horse. The Bedouin camp was wonderful. We were served tea in a campfire after dinner. The atmosphere was very soothing. The mountains were lit up at night, and it looked magical while eating dinner. The food was delicious. The bathrooms in the camp was very clean. The camp that we chose didn’t have AC, but it gets cold at night.. It was worth spending money .

Dear Mary, Thank you for sharing your amazing experience with us! We're glad to hear that your trip to Petra was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It's great that you had a knowledgeable tour guide and a safe driver for the journey. We appreciate your practical tips about the long journey, bathroom stops, border crossing, and the need for some extra cash for taxes. Your advice on comfortable shoes and the option to ride a golf cart is helpful for future travelers. The Bedouin camp experience, with tea by the campfire and the magical atmosphere, sounds wonderful. It's great to know that the food was delicious, and the bathrooms were clean. Thank you for choosing this adventure, and we hope you create more memorable experiences in the future! Best,
Great tour guide, unfortunate stay

Mahdi the tour guide was very kind, knowledgeable and funny too. Made it totally worth it! The camp, felt under our expectations. The infrastructure was in unatended conditions (unclean, dusty, bad smell, bed sheets with holes, etc). All the staff was in sweatpants, no ambience music, incense or other gimmicks to inmmerse you in the "bedouin camp" context. Such a pity... great views though for foto ops!
Impressive tour

We had a very good guide in Jordan who explained many things about the country and the places we visited. Petra is very impressive and a must visit sight
A once in a lifetime opportunity!

Ve patient at the immigration passport control, save strength due to it is too much for two days, Guide and driver were very helpful. Petra is your main objective, tent in the desert was ok.
Petra Highlight

Our Jordan guide, Yazan, was outstanding in every way: friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and passionate. You could not ask for a better guide. I would rate him 10 stars if it were possible. Petra is a no miss tour. It is awesome. Yes there are some hours on the road, but with our group and guide, no problem.
Amazing site
Ray_C, Oct 2019
It was hard work getting there from Jerusalem (long, long journey on the coaches). The Jordanian coach itself, though quite new, was really struggling at times. And the "luxury" Bedouin camp gave rather a new meaning to that word (though it was magical in other ways, sitting round a camp fire drinking tea under a full moon). So why five stars? Two simple reasons. First, the Petra site itself is truly one of the wonders of the world, and is breathtaking in terms both of its natural attributes and of the manmade carvings, etc. The scale is vast, and the whole thing is an unforgettable experience. Second, our guide Mahdi was just wonderful. He is the ultimate professional tour guide - very well informed, good sense of humour, calm, patient, excellent grasp of English, and just a really nice person. He transformed what could have been a very tedious coach journey into an experience that we would not have missed for anything. He seemed to know everybody wherever we went, he treated everyone with the greatest respect, and it was obvious that he was respected in his turn by all those who knew him. Altogether a lovely human being as well as an excellent guide. So a big thank you from your three travellers from the UK!
Fantastic Petra

Petra is fantastic archeological and historical site in Jordan. Our guide Mehdi is excellent and knowledgable, very kind and he made us discover Petra and Jerrash also in very close and comfortable way. Mehdi is like encyclopedia! Amazing and very passionate in his work It was too hot, but August is the only time of the year we could visit. So- we managed. Bedouin camp is great and we enjoyed new experience to sleep in tents. Service 5* for Bedouin camp. Over all it is a must when in this part of world. Tip: Petra is much bigger than we expected. Riding a donkey to get to Monastery saved us a lot of time and efforts.

Mahdi (our tour guide) is an excellent guide & very nice person. We couldn't imagined how he handled this tour very well & the fact that he hasn't eat or drink anything due to Ramadan. He took care of us from the beginning till the end of the tour. I would definitely recommend this tour, you really need atleast 2 days in Petra including staying overnight in the camp. Camp was clean & the camp manager Ahtep makes sure that there's food on the table. Overall it was a great trip to Jerash, Amman & Petra, Jordan!
WORTH THE TRIP!
Libragirl68, Aug 2019
I was in Israel for 9 days on a Christian tour and decided to stay longer to do this tour, and it was well worth it! First of all, I was in the "neighborhood", so decided I had to extend my trip. It was a long trip but I had a great time. The coach was comfortable and relaxing, everyone slept most of the ride. The Bedouin Camp was UNREAL! Wish we had MORE time to just hang out, but it was super comfortable and the bathroom facilities were modern and pleasant (clean, accessible). It was really exciting to do that! Then PETRA of course was spectacular, and the guide, Sammy, was nice, organized and made us feel safe. I went as a single female, and always felt safe. The border control is a bit scary, but just keep it cool. It all turned out right. I'm very happy I extended my Israel stay and recommend this trip!!

Hi, Thank you for writing to us and sharing your experience. It is very pleasant to hear back from our costumers. Petra is indeed a magical place and the Bedouin camp definitely enriches the whole trip. Kind regards, Brenda
Great work trip to Petra

We took the 2 days tour of Jordan and we were able to see and learn so much! Jerash and Petra were breathtaking! Amazing history and sooo much to see. The stay at Bedouin camp was fun and food was good. Kamal ( guide) was very helpful, knowledgeable, and open to any request. Boarder was "interesting"... Going to Jordan took about 1 hr for both Israeli and Jordan customs. IMPORTANT !! get Jordanian dinars before the boarder, we didn't prepare well enough and paid about 20% premiums for exchange . YOU NEED 50 DINARS PER PERSON. 40 for entrance fee and 10 to exit. Also, ensure you have dinars for drinks and tips... Everything else is taken care of. Things are not cheap in Jordan. Going back into Israel. The fun part. The tour group gives you paper instructions on how to get back if you get detained.... This seems to be quite common. We didn't think so until 3 of 12 were grilled by the Israeli guards and 1 guy was questioned for 1and half hours. Luckily everyone in our group were not in a rush and we waited for him at the boarder. Even with that, Jordan was amazing and wish we had more time!!!!
Worth it to see Petra - but improvements need to be made
Kimberly_D, May 2019
This tour can be divided into two parts - the border crossing and the actual tour of Jordan and Petra. The Jordanian part was fantastic. Our guide Abdullah was one of the best guides I've ever had. He is so knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He truly did a fantastic job explaining both Jerash and Petra. The Bedouin camp was perfect. All the cool things about "camping" without the hassle. Yes - the communal showers and bathrooms aren't ideal but we were hardly bothered for the one night. The food at the camp and both meal stops were excellent. You do spend a long time in the bus traveling around, but we had adequate rest stops. Now, dealing with the tour desk folks from Abraham Hostel was a nightmare. We were all on time for the departure and signed in with guy in charge. However, when we got in the bus, they did not have enough seats for everyone. The guy was very condescending towards us - counting us multiple times and acting as if someone sneaked on the bus though we all signed in on his paper before getting on. 19 people signed in and the bus sat 16 so some people had to take a taxi. We were already delayed and when we left - all of a sudden the bus driver was called and made to turn around and go back so we could be recounted again! Not only that, but the guy confused EVERYONE with his description of the border crossing procedure and fees. The email/website says one thing but he contradicted the information. When folks complained about the info he was condescending towards them. This big delay set us back at the border crossing which was very, very slow and painful in the heat. The crossing back to Israel was a little bit smoother, but still stressful as the tour bus will leave without you if you are held back for any reason. Overall, it was still worth the border hassle to experience Jordan and Petra. I do believe you need a tour group and good guide to be able to see it and luckily Abdullah made the tour worth it despite everything. The Abraham Hostel/Tour folks need to clean up their procedures, information, and customer service for this to be a 5 star tour.
Great experience!

We really loved the place, it's fantastic! Really worth the money. Special thanks to Mehdi for taking such good care of us, explaining everything with details, giving us snacks, etc You can't miss this trip!!
Incredible experience!

Amazing small group tour! The tour guide and bus driver took great care of all of us. The included meals were excellent. The people of Jordan we encountered were friendly and we felt very safe on the tour.
Somewhat Lacking!!
Donald_L, Sep 2018
The guide on this tour was not as knowledgeable as I would have expected for a Viator product. The tour company was great and even called us when a last minute reschedule had to happen due to a last min Muslim holiday that affected our tour. Luckily we were able to reschedule. The border crossings were confusing and the guide was not forthcoming with expectations or instructions. Thank God the destination was worth all the hassles to get there. I would recommend the Bedouin camp. Make sure to bring a flashlight for when the lights go out. Trek to the bathroom could be dangerous..

Overall, our adventure to Petra was an enjoyable one. Our tour guide in Jordan was quite good. He was funny and engaging with excellent English. Our stops along the way, as noted in our itinerary, went as planned and were meaningful visits. Our group was small and the season for going was not a heavy tourist time so we weren't met with crowds of people anywhere. All visits were quite pleasant. The van was adequate and comfortable, the driver safely navigated the roadways and carefully guarded our possessions. We stopped periodically and enjoyed delicious food along the way. The food stops were carefully picked to provide clean atmosphere with tasty buffet food choices. My only area of concern involves the border crossing. Actually, that crossing was no problem, just time consuming. What was unclear to me was the money. I was prepared according to what I read in the material for the amount in US dollars and what I expected to need to change into Jordanian money for the return exit fee. However, when I got to the window on the Israeli side, what I had planned did not seem to fit. Then I needed money on the Jordanian side. In the end, it all worked out, but I was scrambling to find cash of some sort to make it work. The fact that we were individually crossing the Israeli border without a guide from either side, made it more stressful. Perhaps I misread something or inadequately prepared, but I would have appreciated a friendly face to clarify when I was in that uncertain position related to money. When we returned to Jerusalem late at night, we needed to immediately travel to our hotel near the airport at Tel Aviv. for a morning departure the next day. The Abraham Tour driver that we met after the border crossing graciously helped us get to our hotel, which was not on his list of stops, but which he was able to arrange for us. We are grateful for his patient efforts on our behalf.

I really liked this tour. The border crossing took little long but was easy because the tour guides helped us to get the necessary checking done fast. Our tour guide at Jordan was very knowledgeable, and funny and made the trip a pleasure. Spending the night in Bed-wing camp was certainly an experience and highly recommended. Only thing to remember is that there is no Electricity and running water after 12am till 6am in the morning. So any bathroom breaks during this time will be with flash lights and wet wipes. :
Wonderful experience. Unfortunately...
Michael_H, Apr 2018
Wonderful experience. Unfortunately, there was no hot water in the Bedouin Camp before we left for Petra but that was the only issue on the entire trip. Our guide did a great job directing this large group.

Michelle_C, Mar 2018
This trip was great! The tour is really about archeological sites so if history is your thing - you'll love this trip. Our tour guide Mautaf / Mo was wonderful. He escorted us on all of the sites and was a wealth of information. Very engaging and I felt he really cared about our experience. All meals were excellent - they have selected really top notch locations and the food was not disappointing. The overnight camp experience in Petra was very cool. Although cold we were there in February, they provided lots of blankets and I slept very well. I felt safe and the camp staff were friendly. This is a camp in the desert so have realistic expectations about showers and hot water! Border crossing: this company did an outstanding job of telling us what to expect, what the risks were and what would happen should any one of us get delayed at the border. Like everything on this tour, the company has really considered the customer's experience and I have nothing but great things to say about them and this tour!
I traveled alone and I felt save all...
