Hi Hendrik,
Thank you for the feedback.
We pride ourselves on running a fun and enjoyable Wildlife Kayaking Tour around the beautiful Kaikoura Peninsula and we are sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy yourself while out on the water with us and the seals were lazing on the rocks.
Marine life interaction is always different as wild animals are unpredictable in their natural habitat. NZ Fur Seals are nocturnal mammals therefore spend time resting on rocks during the daytime however we often encounter them in the water throughout our tours too.
We believe viewing and encountering Seals from a kayak is a very different experience and far less intrusive than viewing seals while walking on land. You also have the chance to explore areas you cannot access easily by foot. Studies also show that seals are more relaxed and don’t feel threatened when being approached from a kayak.
Kind regards,
The Kaikoura Kayaks team.
