Slow hike & serious serious hygiene issues
    Janis_P, Apr 2024
I wasn’t going to post a review I was going to just let it go without one but after my husband & I began experiencing extreme GI issues 10hours after finishing our trip I felt travelers should be warned. Firstly, I believe this trip is built around people who have never hiked before. My husband & I hike extensively all over the world. We have been to 19,000ft & also to 14,000 peaks many times a year. Our guide struggled to keep up. The first 2 days we were far ahead of him, perhaps even a mile on the 2nd day. On the summit day it seemed like he was struggling a lot. Also when I have hired guides previously for big mountains they have an idea of the weather conditions. We could have summitted the day before since we arrived at camp very early & the weather was perfect. Instead he said we should summit the next day (an hour before sunrise) in the wind, rain, & no view. So even the time of the summit was off- we left far too early for sunrise. We ended up requesting to leave from the last camp a day early because the hygiene on the trek was so horrific. This was the one thing I am grateful for. Otherwise we would have been suffering these GI issues while trying to hike out on the road! Also as a note the first day of the trek is just a 6mi hike on a paved road where tourist vehicles pass u. This trek could easily be done in 2 days. Finally, the hygiene. It was horrific. The kitchens at the huts were horrendous. The last breakfast was supposed to be at a hut. It was instead a shack that I was told not to look in by our guide because I would “not want to see that.” So I can only imagine…but that’s where they were cooking our food!! So now we both suffer the consequences. My advice if u r set on this hike. Bring your own tent (the huts are very very dirty), sleeping bag, sleeping pad, stove, fuel, AND food. Hire a guide only or maybe a guide & a porter. Cook & boil your own water & food!! Otherwise you will be having the same issues as my husband & I.
