What To Expect

Make your own way to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park at the time that is convenient for you.

Your self-guided tour can begin anywhere you like in the 100-acre park. Take a look around the USS Alabama and get a feel for life on a battleship during World War II. As you walk around the ship, you can peak into the kitchen, doctor's quarters, radio room, and more. The ship served as a set for the 2016 movie USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, which starred actor Nicolas Cage.

Next, check out the USS Drum, the oldest American submarine on display to the public. The submarine was deployed in the Pacific theater, sinking several Japanese warships and providing reconnaissance at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Continue to the Aircraft Pavilion to view the 28 historic airplanes and military vehicles on display.

Other wars receive recognition at the military park. To honor the 100th anniversary of WWI, the Great War exhibit opened in March 2016, and memorials throughout the park include the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Fallen Hero’s 9/11 Memorial, and a monument for Military Service dogs.

Check the calendar for special events such as historical reenactments performed by the Living History team every other month.

Great self guided tour…took us 3 hours
Scott_S, Mar 2024
Tour route was a bit funky but once we turned it into a scavenger hunt, it became part of the fun. It took us about 3 hours reading about 10% maybe…

Walking through history, living history from the stories told, the sights seen, reading the articles, checking out the sailors lives, better then learning history in school, here you are immersed in it!

Totally amazing experience! And we would go 10 more times if we had the time before our vacation was over! 110% recommend to everyone of every age! And if you have a baby who isn’t of age to walk yet, I suggest wearing them in a baby sling! It will help tremendously!

The entire battleship was amazing, we would tour it again! It is so neat how it takes you back in time!
What a cool place!
Nicole_P, Aug 2021
This place was awesome. The boys and I loved it. Such a cool experience and the tours we're actually laid out quite well if you pay attention to the numbers. We took at least 4 hours to go through everything, my 3 old was able to keep up but dragging towards the end. The battleship has lots of narrow stairs. But worth it
young kids & adults enjoyed, win for all!

We stopped here while driving between Florida and Texas, and weren't 100% sure if this was a good idea, but our family thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Our kids (ages 7 and 5) loved climbing all over the ship and submarine. We will definitely do this again when passing through the area.
Love this facility

A lot to explore! We all had a great time! The worst part was the heat! The crowd would be the second worst. Reasonable pricing!

It is so cool to see an amazing part of history. My husband was in the navy, so he was able to share information with my boys about the ship.
